Can a B022 drum unit (in my case, a Savin Type 1027) be placed in a B089 (Savin 4022) or a B205 (Savin 8025) and work with no "long term effects". Yeah, I know! This isn't called a retrofit, but it was the only name I could come up with.
What started us wondering was a few Lanier models that we got in, on wholesale, that had B022 drum units in them. At first we thought it was placed there because to wholesale a machine, it only has to pass paper. And that they did. The first machine that had this older drum unit in it, had good copy quality so we didn't think a lot about it. Just wrote it off as "One of those wholesale tricks!". The next one, we stopped and figured that something was up! I ran a few hundred copies and the quality was fine throughout, so this leads me to ask...
Have any of you guys used this older drum unit in any of the new machines with good long term results?
If so, the savings could far out way the risks. Ok, well maybe! I mean, if you only get like a 10k out of one, then yeah.... we will keep rebuilding and replacing lower dev units every other rebuild. But if not... well, that might just open a vault of savings that could help a lot of folks!
We have placed a 1027 drum unit in one 4027, in the field, that is placed in a low volume environment (less than 3k a month) and one in a 8030 we spotted in the shop. This one is going in a normal environment of about 5-7k a month. We will see!
Just wanted to get others input on this.
