    MPC3002 not connecting to network

My IT guy sez the nic board, which has been incorporated on the control bd, needs to be replaced.
Is there anything special I will need to do after replacing the control bd?

It looks fairly straight forward. Any insight would be helpful.

    Thanks

Replacing the controller should not be your first course of action here...especially on the word of your IT guy. What troubleshooting steps have you taken thus far?

IF" IT GUY" SAYS IT THEN ..
ARE you even a tech if you are being told what is wrong??
If someone went beast mode removing the nic wire then maybe but if not??

Easiest way to verify if it IS in fact the NIC, is connect a laptop straight to the machine with a crossover cable, and see if everything communicates. If it does, then then NIC is not your problem.

Try connecting your laptop with a regular Cat-5 to the port the copier is plugged into. Do you get a network connection?

Re: MPC3002 not connecting to network

I.T. people ALLWAYS blame the NIC...because back in the HP days you could easily swap out just the NIC for testing..AND they used to die on a regular basis.
I love answering I.T. people who blame the NIC with "Because the NIC is part of the controller board and the fact that your machine is no longer on contract that will cost you $1500".
They change their tune pretty fast.
As others have said...there is waaaay too many things to check before swapping out the controller.

Most PC NICs are built into the motherboard these days, too.

I wonder how often he replaces his workstation and server motherboards when troubleshooting....errrr....shotgunning network issues?

            Standard cop-out-go-to answer.

Re: MPC3002 not connecting to network

I have seen people mistakenly plug the FAX line into the network jack. This has been known to bent the outside pin on each end of the network jack, pins 1 and 8, to where they may not make contact. Pin 1 is used by CAT 5 twisted pair Ethernet. A small spring hook or crochet hook can be used to straighten them.

Re: MPC3002 not connecting to network

Thank you everyone for your replies.

Dr Richard, I have to admit that all I did was observe that the light next to the connector is solid yellow. I did re-seat connectors.
Obviously I am not trained on the IT end of this business and it usually baffles me that is why I rely on the IT people that I trust.

FShead, I see my lame question has ruffled your feathers. Yes I am a tech for 40 years now. It is my failing when I left Kodak
that I did not get trained on the IT end of the business. It is possible that it could be something simple. So what is this nic wire that
you are referring to, is that the network cable? Yes it is plugged into the copier and the other end into a router. Just saying that makes
me wonder why I did not unplug the power from the router. I have to do that at my house once in awhile so it makes sense to me that I
should try that first. If you have some constructive suggestions I would like to hear them.

                More later

If the mfp has printed before, and all of a sudden no more, check the driver and the printerport.
The driver must be PCL6 specific for that type of Ricoh. No WSD port!
The printerport must have an unique IP address e.g. 192.168.1.45 (or something like that). No universal driver.
                  Is this info clear enough?
I like the saying "has ruffled your feathers"

Also check that IEEE802 authentication for ethernet hasn't been enabled.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Re: MPC3002 not connecting to network

Years ago, I had an IT guy at a customer who insisted that the NIC in a Canon iR600 was bad. He told me to replace it, or take the machine back with me and cancel the contract.

It had worked perfectly for about a week after installation, then stopped replying to print jobs or ping.

Turned out this was one time that the night cleaning people were actually to blame. They had moved the machine all of about 6 inches or so, but managed to pinch the network cable under one of its casters.

Anyone who remembers that model knows it was a total tank, weighing just slightly less than a rhinoceros.

What I'm trying to say is to not overlook such simple little gremlins that tend to make life miserable.

Oze, this is a new customer call, there is not a contract. So what other things are there that I could check?

KenB, I can't recall ever replacing a mother bd for this issue. That is why I posted my question. I don't like the shotgun approach either
to much $$. If you have a suggestion I would like to hear it and thanks for reminding me about the gremlins. They can be sneaky.

Slimslob, thank you for your post I will check for bent pins today.

Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestion. As an indy it really helps.

Does the machine pickup an ip address when you set it up to auto obtain IP address? Ensure that the RJ45 Port in the wall is active ( Connect a laptop via Ethernet cable and check the port)
If it works, don't touch it.

DR, it's today manufacturers common practice to integrate Ethernet port within Main boards.
I don't know Ricoh but I had to replace many Main boards due to missing network connection via embedded port. Make sure machine port is dead by connecting directly with your laptop as other members suggested. If direct connection fails read manual how to change main board.
                            Wish you good luck.

I had one Ricoh where we had to replace the BICU due to a problem with the port controller. You could ping it, print to it and connect with WIM but you could not scan to email or folder. Network interface report said could not connect, failed to open port. My boss picked up a parts machine for about half what new board would cost. Swapped boards and it worked fine. We used the parts machine in our office as a printer.
