anyone working on the ricoh MPW 3601 and the KIPS WIDE FORMAT?

    HI
Any techs seeing both brands of wide format units?
    How do they compare?
I do not usually deal with wide formats as i have plenty to do but have a good account looking for
one to basically scan and has a kips for printing..

I am not a Kip fan but they work ok. On the other hand I'm probably a little bias being a Lanier tech I think the Ricoh machine is better. The Ricohs seem to run better and are easier (to me)to work on. When I first started with the company I work for we only sold and serviced wide format, so I have worked on almost every brand at one time or another. Since we became a Lanier dealer it sure made my life easier. The MPW 6700 is a really good machine I have probably 50 in the field with hardly any problems. I still have 20 or more 3601's running fine as well. The only Ricoh I don't care for is the Mpcw 2200, total crap, we now sell Canon as our color wide format instead.

Is the scanning about the same in both or has one a bigger advantage over the other?

Most of my wide format customers were construction contractors working on major projects. They would download complete sets of blue prints from the architect. Scanning was never an issue.

About the same scanning no huge differences. I don't like the fusing on the Kips as well, again Ricohs are a little easier in that department also. It all boils down to parts availability and how comfortable you are with the machines. The 3601 is a proven machine that works well, except the stacking of the prints in the lower exit. The top exit works ok but you can't stack large jobs, anything over 40 0r 50 pages tends to fall behind the machine.

Thanks for the complete and honest feedback..
At this stage of my life i stay away from selling possible headaches..
I ve seen a lot of RICOH in most of my accounts that need wide formats and only a few KIPS..
IS service mode on wide format the same as normal B/W?

Yes same service mode. Looks like any other Ricoh SM. Pretty easy to find everything you need. If you need any help with the Ricoh wide format just get with me. I've seen most problems with these machines as have other on here I see answering wide format issues.

i appreciate the info and offer for help.
I planted the seed with this account and he seems to want to consider the option.
At lease if it is a ricoh I can get parts from local dealer.
My only concern when i get to check out a machine that it is complete,no missing software cards and such.
                thanks

The W3601 is pretty good, DO NOT even consider the CW2200 as it is a POS.

Come on the 2200 is an awesome machine.(NOT) Every tech should have the privilege to work on these wonderful machine that Ricoh won't even support you on. Every issue I have had all anybody can do is quote the manual. I know how to read, and if its a 2 roll machine forget about it you better either take the second roll off or offer up an alternative machine. They really didn't even fix the problems when they brought out the 2201 still having feed issues when rolls switch paper sizes. I'm convinced its a timing registration problem but no adjustment available for it in SP. Again no help from Ricoh just the usual change a board...blah blah blah. Anyway Mikadonovan is right stay away from these. Rant complete

Yes WIM is available. There should be 2 SD cards in the rear slots TIFF/GL filter and Printer option. The scan option and security & encryption should have already been installed and yes you will see these in SM. We keep our SD cards with machines but not everyone does.

i always worry about having to find a small missing card that prevents machine from working..

if i am seeing units with 25,000 sq ft do you think they will need any major fuser or drum parts changed?
