My arm pulled the damn sheet of paper out during a k toner pump replacement on a mp c3500. Screw dropped right down the back slot at the gears. Whats the best approach at recovering this?
Unless it kicked through one the opening in the back frame, the first thing I would do is to pull out both paper trays and see if it ended up in back of them. If it kicked through, worse case scenario is that it ended up in the PSU. I have had them go all the way down to the bottom of the paper bank.
Next time use a magnetic nutdriver and place the screws outside the machine.

On this old box turn the machine back on most likely its fallen into a void not causing an issue.

Yes the dam screws jumping ship into the back on the machine
even with a magnetic driver it still happends.
Its happened to me a few times when removing the Toner hoppers, once they jump ship you have two options.
1 .. turn it upside down and shake the life out of it, you may get lucky
2 .. turn on the machine and you may find all is fine.
poke around with a long magnetic tool.
or turn in on stay near on/off switch in case of grinding..........
i d be more concerned if touches any kind of brd or such.

Get your self a 5.5mm magnetic nut driver. And of course all good engineers carry a couple of snap-ons your tools I feel should always be the best quality. {Buy cheap pay twice}

Screws do fall off of a magnetized screw driver. I have never had one fall off a 5.5mm magnetic nut driver. Used to be able to order good ones from Ricoh.

I have replaced a ton of toner pumps over the years and have lost maybe a dozen screws in the process. I never had any issues with just getting another screw. Fire it up and check the operation, you may be just fine.
