    Ricoh IMC4500 - Fiery E25c controller issue

    Hi Guys,

I have recently installed a new IMC4500 with an E-25c fiery controller, The customer has reported the error message - DFE connection error. (digital front line).

We have switched off the fiery auto shut down setting via the W.I.M also updated firmware of the device and checked for any patches for the fiery. A reboot of the fiery sometimes rectify's the issue but it does reoccur.

Anyone seen this or had similar issues?

    Thanks

Why put a Fiery on an 'office machine'? More commission for salesman.

      Hi mate,

Are you getting and comms related SC codes eg- SC919 ?
Have you tried swapping out the ethernet cable from the RIP to the engine?
Could be any number of things .

This is a common issue with the new Fierys, I see it a lot on the Pro 8300 and Pro C7200, all firmware and patches are up to date. Best we can do for now is to just reboot every few days. Maybe they will come out with a new patch to help, got to wait and see.

A lot of times, that's the case, but sometimes it's not.

For the most part, it's a bad idea, but on a rare occasion it works out well.

I once had an ad agency that had a 45 ppm Ricoh color machine with a Fiery. It was sold to their main office out of state, where the selling dealer had a really good color specialist who did an outstanding job on creating some color profiles which were right on the money. I was sent those profiles, as well as all the required settings.

The PCs which printed to it were all basic office apps, and a few PDFs, and they weren't too color critical.

Their graphics department, on the other hand, were all Macs with graphics apps, and they were quite touchy about color accuracy. They also took advantage of Command Workstation to reprint jobs on demand, without resubmitting.

It was a pain in the keester to keep the Fiery and copier working properly (more than a few error codes came our way), but when all was right with the world, the color output was impressive.

It really is a pain on the office color machines to have a Fiery. We have a customer though that their specific contract is written that at least 1 machine "requires" a fiery for whatever reason and if they elect to not get a larger production model, the office color with Fiery is allowed to "bend the rules" so to speak. As long as you have 2 network drops and/or a switch so you can plug in the GW controller as well and use the native scanning and @remote features it isn't too bad. The problem is when the operators who have used Fiery before expect miracles out of a business color box. They do good for what they are but won't run 300gsm 11x17)

In this case the Fiery is required to produce high quality images for a high end estate agent in London, MAC's are in use but they don't print on heavy media and also don't have the space or need for a production device, hence the fiery on an office device.

Ethernet cable has now been swapped, client currently monitoring but due to COVID19 we may not know outcome for a while.

              Thanks all.

I have an IM C6000 that has been having this issue, and I see that Ricoh has a patch they released on December 20th for the E-25C "Fiery disconnects randomly."
