    SP5210 DF jam

    Howdy folks,

Got a SP5210 that has J058 jams which is paper stays at DF reg sensor. Only happens on duplex and only on the last flip. Machine scans both sides fine and is just at the reverse rollers to flip it back over to put into the catch tray. Paper does not reverse back in, just sits there for half a second and goes into a jam state.

Registration is perfect on both sides compared to the previous sheet so i don't know that the paper is actually lagging.

Cleaned all the rollers/sensors and the feed tires were replaced a few months ago. When i got there it would do this on 1 page. After ripping the feeder apart, cleaning everything and checking the inverter flag it now does it every 10-15 pages.

I had one other machine start doing this a few months back as well but i couldn't find anything wrong with it and after cleaning it up it took like 200-300 pages to replicate.

    Any thoughts on this one?

Have you checked the left hinge (when standing in front of machine) on the ADF? Known to break and cause problems.
How about the Top cover? Have had too many to count where the customer rips that thing open and pushes it past it's "stopping point" and snap the little plastic pegs off near the registration area of the feeder. This seems to be the most common cause of issues with this feeder.
Other than that, maybe a solenoid not firing correctly (or not traveling enough).
All gears and one ways look good?

I just ordered sensors and the torque limiter for that last roller, it kind of acts like a 1 way. Ill check the hinge, ive seen that break before as well but it was jamming on single side as well. The little arms in the top cover are also ok. These guys have broke that many times too!

THAT feeder is the same as mpc300/mpc401 and i had an issue with duplex jams a year or so back.
The rollers at the door hinge i clean while in service mode and use a paper towel wth wd 40 and lid opened and sensor cheated.
They got very funky,i then do the sets under the tray, one near exit and 2nd outside alone..
I clean all rollers and sep pad wth wd 40 too...

I had a mpc300 yesterday wth bad hinge and it would close off angle and not activate adf closed sensor rear of glass..

might want to ck if there are clutches that can get dirty, maybe spray alcohol n insert paper..

If it's the same doc feed as the MPC300 it may be the exit sensor actuator is sticking, not dropping down fast enough. It's a bastard to get to as well, you've got to go down to get at it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Hit it.

            Just a follow up,

I changed the reg sensor, inverter sensor, feed clutch, exit roller torque limiter, inverter flag and frame it attaches too.

I think i had a combination of 2 things happening. The inverter flag was definitely returning slow. The new flag and frame moves much better. The exit rollers i think were slipping. That torque limiter they use as a 1 way has way more bite on the new one compared to the old one. The old rollers i could not turn and have the belt turn as well. The new torque limiter will turn the belts if you turn it slowly, if you use more force it will slip as well.

All this work can be done with out removing the feeder and not ripping the back drive out. Just the back and front covers removed. You need good tweezers to slip the plastic clip off the torque limiter and that will pull out easy.

The inverter flag frame is clipped in. Just remove the top door and the frame below the feed tires and then the inverter flag comes out to the left with 2 clips.

Before i started the work it jammed after 2 pages on double side. After performing the work 180 pages and no jams. Good enough for me.

Oh make sure you get the latest parts guide, the one i had gives you a wrong part number for the inverter frame!
