Did you check what the service manual had to say? SC 997 is usually an Application function selection error and could be caused by a malfunctioning or missing hardware option required by the application. Disconnecting the HDD and Fax could actually make the problem worse. You need to find out what application is trying to launch. It could be whatever is set the default startup App. -

The initial problem was at power on, the please wait msge on and once at a point it showed sc997, that was before I disconnected the hdd and fax option, if after connecting hardware again, still persistsComment

Can you get to SP mode?
If yes then do HDD format.

Re: Ricoh mpc400 please wait message on panel
frankly I think he should disable all aps and go from there.
if he formats it he will need to reload firmware
your profile is missing LOTS of vital info... ARE you a trained RICOH tech? How many years in the industry? did you read the S Manual?Comment

Re: Ricoh mpc400 please wait message on panel
Please correct me.... if apps are loaded on HDD .. formatting will ERASE all data.. even if some portions of FW are stored there...
and that formatting will require ALL info loaded on the drive to have to be reloaded.
or am I losing it?Comment

Actually Ricoh does not erase all the data, that would take too long. All it does is erase and rebuild the indices and allocation tables so the data cannot be found.Comment
