It's most likely just not activated. The SD slot and USB slot can be enabled/ disabled separately.
User tools/ Screen features/ screen device settings/ screen usb memory slot (set to "active")

If you try a different thumb drive? Have had some USB sticks not work but not sure why, possibly formatted in NTFS but never bothered to check

Why not include the things that you've already tried in your initial post so we don't waste our time guessing!!
I'm starting to remember why you were on my ignore list. I'll go back to doing that

I originally had trouble getting this to work, too. This procedure must be followed: From scanning screen, select the store file tab at the top. Select store to memory device, then select OK. NOW insert the usb drive, wait for ready, then set your original and hit start. In addition, I have had a couple of flash drives not work at all, and both were PNC.

In the installation guides and, commissioning, they usually warn that some "pendrive" or "USB sticks" may not be supported.
I understand therefore that RICOH knows that its "controller" for the USB port has a serial defect, which has not been corrected.

I deal with off lease copiers. First thing I do is upgrade firmware on copier once I know that overall copier is working properly.

Look at the connection on the USB slot. I had a customer who used the USB port all the time because they wanted to print color from their MAC but did not have the PS option. Over time they flatten down the connector pins so it did not connect. Took it apart and reformed the pins and it worked.

                          Good luck
