It is probably a combination of ozone, burning paper, and melting toner. Technicians are pretty much immune to the smell but end-users will notice it, especially on longer runs.

Not sure about the ozone, this model uses charge roller and there arnt any o2 filters. If the fuser rollers are new the oil can give off a smell, If it were a problem I think you would smell it even in small runs.
      Ventilate the room?

You might check the press roller cleaning roller. If something has wrapped, or it's coated with toner, it could raise a stench on long runs.

I had a couple of machines in the same customer location stinking up the rooms on long runs. Turned out to be the recycled paper they were using. No kidding, stunk like someone had let a long cheek flapper off in there!

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

Some sorts of non-oem toner does also smell like hell withing the fusing process but I also agree that some papertypes may force problems like this.

Nevertheless you will always smell "something" if you pring large jobs - especially if the machine is located in small rooms without proper ventilation.

I agree, maybe it is your customers ass that is stinking up the room.

It's probably some combination of paper/toner they are running. Those skyshots can really stink up a room.....maybe they have a lot of fill on the page.

                    hehe-

"stunk like someone had let a long cheek flapper off in there! "

You're probably used to the toner smell, or at least not as sensitive to it as they are.

Even with charge rollers, there's probably a tiny amount of low-level ozone produced, but it's nowhere near the smell the old beasts used to give off, so they're probably not smelling any of that.

I've seen/smelled/heard of most of the combinations reported here. Even one smelled faintly of rotten eggs once. It actually turned out to be the paper. Took some in shop and got the same smell. Swapped out paper, and smell was gone.

WHEN AM I GOING TO GET TO GO TO A CALL WHERE THE COPIER SMELLS LIKE BACON, DAMMIT???!!! (OR CINNIMON, OR STEAK, OR CHOCOLATE, OR HOT P.............never mind?)

Seriously though, I have had one or two customers who's sense of smell was apparently so sensitive that they could smell something different than even their co-workers could smell. Not much I could do there. I couldn't smell it either.

Don't you love it when the they call and says it smells "hot" though? LOL! (Bet you'll think about that differently next time they call!)

                      I love this job!

                      Regards

There could be a dead body somewhere in the room, they tend to start stinking after a while.

Smell like a beer would be even better!

In sub-tropical Brizzie I check the inside of the hot roller in case any bugs have crept in there. Gekkos frying on the PSU put out a distinctive smell as well.
