Ricoh Mp4001 - Is this machine good?

    Hello everybody

    The company I work for repairs Ricoh machines , mainly 301, 2851, 3352, 6002, ..

But the mp4001 I've never worked with before and yesterday 1 came into the workshop for repairs and a pm.
The machine came up with an sc672 after about 5 mins. I'm supposing thats the hard drive that needs replacement.

What I want to know is ,

    1) are these machines reliable ?
    2) are these machines expensive to maintain?

    Thank you

Re: Ricoh Mp4001 - Is this machine good?

As good as any of the 35/45 and 40/50 ppm models. Highly susceptible to quality problems when used with improper toner/developer. After market supplies will cause a film to build up on the development roller. Even Ricoh had a problem with some batches of toner. To make sure dealers had the best toner they actually charged the label design and order code. Once filmimg happens the machine can go from appearing to be under toned to being over toned in a matter of hours. No adjustment will help

To correct will require removing all developer, cleaning the film off, inspecting the roller for any scratches, cleaning any remaining toner residue from the development unit, the upper PCU housing and toner hopper and finally installing new genuine Ricoh developer and toner. asome people also like to polish the development roller with Stay Bright or similar metal polish

      I join the already exposed

It is a very good machine, easy to repair, problem 672, I have seen it in most cases, when the operator turns off the machine abruptly, without due process (main power-stops flashing -main switch) or problem of current in the premises.

In my eyes the mp4000/5000/1/2 series are not very good they don't use that design no more with says it all the models below ie Russian are one of the best 20 to 30 page per minute and the range above 50 pages per minute would be the best mono copier has ever made and still the best that's the martini series

This model is so old now soon parts will be discontinued.

Consider the MP xx54 series these are a good reliable machine.

Re: Ricoh Mp4001 - Is this machine good?

                I pop'in at all customers to hear if they are satisfied;
Meanwhile i cheq the machine, little maintenance and that's it.
                But NEVER i go to a customer with a mp4000, 5000 4001 or 4002,...
                Those machines will always 'dot'.
I mean, when you look closely there are always dots on the image.
Even after PM, you will never get it clean!
Jamming is ok, good ADF, good F.U., speed ok, but never they reach for the 300K parts!
There is a Transfer belt unit with collection of waste toner, my lord, pain to maintain.
Also the cleaning web: or it is to late to replace (and client can not print anymore for a while) or it is to early to replace it and there is plenty of good web still on it which you need to throw away.
                Not my favorite!

Of the Ricoh, which one would you recommend?

All Ricoh mpc's are pretty good, early or new models.
                    But the c2003 is less.

I worked on this series for several years. They are not my favorite. Very filthy running and labor intensive, especially a fuser rebuild. I'm glad that I no longer work on them.

Same. The newer MP 4054/4055 are MUCH improved. I am so glad I am rid of most of these filthy running pigs..
