    Technical information for Aficio 220/270

Please advise if Aficio 220/270 are reliable machines. What are the
common problems do you encounter from this unit? Is there any serious problem about this machine? Thanks.

Basically these machines are tanks. They will run forever if properly maintained. Don't mess around with servicing the PCU's, replace them. Replace the hot roller, pressure roller and thermistor when they give you trouble.

Keep a spare polygon mirror motor, lower fuser frame, interchange unit cover, duplex upper junction gate and bridge unit sensor handy. They are the parts I have had fail most on the Russian.

Other than that, there is no major issue with these things.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Yeah that's one of my all time favourite

Top engine, easy to maintain and no major issues at all but of course these machines aren't getting younger so there's a certain risk that you may have to deal with non-standard problems - but that is a risk you have to take with every other, older machines too.

        Regarding PCU of Aficio 220 & 270

I heard from someone that the new PCU of Aficio 220 & 270 can make somewhere around 160,000 copies and it's PCU can be rebuilt by changing the Drum, blade, developer and the gears and this can extends it's copying life for additional of maybe 50,000 to 70,000 copies more depending on the condition of the PCU. How true is this? Thanks.
By the way the drum, blade, developer & gears are available with Katun.

Personally I've NEVER seen a Russian PCU make it past 120k. As I said, you could try rebuilding them but you'd have to replace them in as you said 50-70k, so you might as well just put a new one in every 100k unless it gives you copy quality issues. Just set the machine to ask for a PCU every 100k and you'll be fine.

They're pretty good machines. They are a big step up from the 200/250 series boxes. The only real things I've seen are after some mileage, there can develop some toner overflow problems from the PCU area. The NVRAM was the only thing that fixed it on all of the machines it happened on (about 4).

Anyway, if you can, step up to the 1022/1027 series machine, it's quite a bit better than the 220/270. It takes what works on that machine and improves it quite a bit.

TonerMunkeh has it right on those parts. You'll almost definitely need a mirror motor, but they're easy to replace. And, I'd add a green toner handle for the ones that just "mysteriously" fall off. I agree about the PCU's-just replace them.

How the hell did I forget the toner handle? D'oh!

Get about 20 spare. If you've got a particularly shagwitted, ham-fisted customer - you'll need em.
