    Ricoh Pro C550ex Questions

Hi all, Just wondering about a Ricoh Pro C550ex. I am considering buying one of these Machines.

Is it a good machine to work with for heavy use? it presently has a Toner cartridge issue with the Magenta not being recognized.

I haven't decided weather I should get involved with this machine or not, It only has 140k total prints and a fiery unit.

Thanks for any and all input

Agreed, very old machine. And even when they were brand new they were toner belching Beast. Not my favorite model by far.

With a machine that old I would be more concerned with the potential for mechanical failure like broken gears in the fusing unit. If you buy one you may want to have a spare fusing unit on hand because parts can take time to get.

Toner belching can be handled but will be expensive to do. Machine will need a full PM. That means all spewed toner cleaned, applying a laundry list of service bulletins issued to correct CQ problems and toner dropping and then making changes in SP settings to slightly reduce the toner concentration in all the development units so that less toner is applied to the drums and very slightly increasing transfer currents so that more of the toner on the drum is ends up on the paper instead of the waste toner.

They are a very maintenance hungry machine but make beautiful copies as long as you are ready to spend the time and money to maintain them.
