pinging wondering if i have a bad crossover cable went to ping cmd on laptop wdws xp typed ping i.p address ping fails ping from desk top through net cable passes.am i doing something wrong
Hi Paul, make shure your machine is not in DHCP, but the best way to test comunication with your machine and laptop thru crossover cable is to manualy configure the machine and PC, because some machines have DNS, Gateways and so on. EX: IP 192.168.1.10 subnet 255.255.255.0 machine and IP 192.168.1.11 subnet 255.255.255.0 for your laptop, thats it. PRINT A CONFIGURATION PAGE SO THAT YOU CAN PUT EVERYTHING BACK AS IT WAS BEFORE.
sigpicWe can all Win, but at the end we all loose.Save the greyhound
ok then why can i ping from desktop and laptop through the network cable.didnt change anything then.i know i sound dumb but im not getting it why do i have to change anything with crossover cableand dont know where to find subnet and ip in laptop

when you remove your network cable and connect the crossover directly, you are disconnecting from your existing network, and your laptop will have a completely different IP address. Your basically joining your own network.
I believe you will actually have to reboot your laptop once it is disconnected in order to get any IP at all. The way to check IP, Subnet, etc, for your laptop, or PC is: open command prompt and type: ipconfig
If you try this with and without the cable you will see the numbers change.
You are going to have difficulty if you want to switch back and forth.
Also, make absolutely sure that you are using a crossover cable, or just use a small 5 port SWITCH or something. The switch will autonegotiate the cable so you won't have to worry about having a crossover, if you're not sure. Or, with a switch, just use two regular cables.
If no crossover cable, then machine to switch, switch to laptop. Static the IP of the copier, like stated before, then static the IP of your laptop.
As stated before:
copier
192.168.1.10
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1
laptop
192.168.1.11
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1
This is just for testing, and place it back to the copier's previous static ip, and put your laptop back to auto.
Once you do this a few times, it will make sense, but I have hardly ever used a crossover for testing in all of my years. I will troubleshoot from their network, so I can figure out the problems from there.

Ok better start from the beginning.i cannot bring the copier up on the web i.e put i.p on search and the printer stats come on.but i can ping it from my desktop.also i cannot scan to email or folder.now i know our network is not the problem.i have green light on nic card but yellow stays off continually.i think nic card not problem so would controller board be the next thing in line that could cause these issues
It sounds like the NIC is fine, since you can see it on the network.
It also sounds like you're saying that you are not able to access the web interface. When you input the IP addy of the copier into the URL bar of the browser, what exactly happens? Does it time out or just sit there or what?
You might have a specific issue with the browser, such as security settings too high or something, but without actually sitting there, it's a bit hard to say.
In my experience, when a web interface doesn't pull up, the machine also cannot be seen on the network.

ok on browser says cannot display webb page.when i run diagnostic from that screen it then says"windows confirmed i.p is currently on linebut is not respondingsays to config firewall to allowconnect through tcp/ip port 80 not sure how to do that question why only this printer previouse one on same cable worked
Explaination of the NIC lite status...
Turns yellow when 100 BASE-TX is operating. Turns off when 10 BASE-T is operating. The Green one means it is properly connected to the network.
That being said in the configuration has someone set the speed to 10? It should generally remain on auto except in odd situations. If your network is using 100 only at the switches you would see this kind of issue.
The first thing I would do is Print a config page and take a look at the settings. If you do not find something wrong there, the next step would be: 5801-11 Memory clear NCS....Initializes the system default and interface settings (IP address also), SmartNetMonitor for Admin, WebImageMonitor settings, and the TELNET settings. Basically resets the NIC to defaults
Next I would reload all firmware. If that doesn't do it, start with the NIC and work inward into the machine.
Also...I'm not sure if this model had an option to disable or limit access to WIM like the newer ones do, some wise guy could have set it to disable web access or limit access to a certain range of IP addys.
