[Misc] MPC2004 Scanning when out of toner.

I have a customer who says scanning is not working as one of the toners is empty (they are awaiting delivery). Is this the case on that machine, I would have thought you could still scan? I know you can on other manufacturers machines.

Does it have a results report for either scan or fax that is pending to be printed? Has the memory filled up with faxes that are waiting to print?

I just checked on an MP C407 with the toner removed it let me scan OK.

Hi folks, thanks for your efforts. I have just discovered there is a limit of 200 scans then it won't let you do anymore.

          Good to know, thanks.

Maybe if the client powers off/on the machine it will reset that 200 scan limit count!?

Just switch this setting to "Do not print, delete the oldest"

Is it possible the scanner journal is full and set to Disable Send?

Check User Tools - Scanner Features, General Settings and Under Print and Delete Scanner Journal according to the manual there should be 3 options:

Up to 250 transmission results can be checked on this machine. If the stored transmission results reach 250, specify whether to print the delivery journal.
Depending on the security settings, the transmission journal may not be printed.
              • Print and Delete All
The transmission journal is printed automatically. The printed journal is deleted.
              • Do not Print: Delete Oldest
Transmission results are deleted one by one as new results are stored.
              • Do not Print: Disable Send
Transmission cannot be performed when the journal is full. You can transmit if you press [Print Scanner Journal] to print the journal or press [Delete Scanner Journal] to delete the journal.

I would check this and if its set to Disable Send you should be able to print/delete the Scanner Journal manually

You could also set momentaneously SP3100-001 to "1".
                Good luck!

I think it varies model by model, even within Ricoh.

I had the same issue 5 or 6 years ago with.

I don't remember the model number, but at the time we did a pretty thorough search for an answer, and found none.

We called tech support as well, and were told we had to have toner in it. Absolutely no surprise there.

We were out in the boonies at the time, and the nearest account we could borrow any from was over an hour away.

In this case, the (B&W) machine had the AutoStore client installed, and refused to scan until we fed it some yummy toner.

I suppose you could disable toner end detection to keep them going until they get a new cart, if that is what's causing the problem.

                      This has already been suggested.
