customer moved and want to use a cell phone hot spot to print/scan?

greetings to all and hope we are still safe/sane when this is behind us..

I took a call from a law firm that i use to service and they moved into a small office.
They have no internet and want to print/scan via "hot spot" on their phone?
    Is this even feasible?

If they have internet via PCs can I connect PCs to a 5 port switch and then connect the printers?
Or does using a wifi extended make sense and if so how would you link it to a hotspot?
I have not gone in person as I have avoided nyc with all the criminals now doing as they please..

I have connected an MPC 2503 to 2 computers with a 5 port switch in the past with no internet at all.
The only thing I remember is that it ended up with a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address, but it was able to print and scan fine.
Are they trying to print from their phones, or just use them for internet access?

Interesting problem. I have never had a reason to use my cell phone as a mobile hotspot but was shown how to make it happen.

Obviously, the customer could incur some high data charges. The request might be a temporary work around until a internet service provider shows up.

I suspect your copiers need to each have an optional wifi accessory installed if still available. Both copiers are now discontinued and the accessories are likely expensive and not user friendly to install by 2021 standards.

I never tried not using internet to connect print/scan.
They were configured to scan to email via gmail SMTP settings.
I am not a big I PHONE guy and use my cell for WAZE and texts/calls.
Just never got into looking at such a small screen unless needed..
So w/out internet how do you scan?SMB?

I have learned the right way to do things is not always what a customer sees..
They rather "think" they are saving money............

Are they going to purchase phone to dedicate as this "hot spot"? Might be less expensive for them to purchase a 5 port switch with wireless AP.

                    HI
I dont know and almost dont care..
I hate doing things ass backwards..
I spent time yesterday trying to talk the secretary who has no computer knowledge
through connecting up a PC to print to..
I never the full story till I exhaust every normal option and then find out there is no
                    internet access there....
You know how customers are they see a scan button and just by hitting it it should scan...........

The more think about it, the more it sounds like you do not have a clear idea how to resolve this issue, the harder it is going to be for you to invoice your time if you cannot enable a solution.

I would decline the service call on this one until the customer creates an account with an Internet service provider. Once that happens you are likely going to be running network cables to the copiers.

Remember this is discontinued product so Wifi cards are likely unavailable and the customer may not be willing to pay the cost.

Just because this former customer has a bird brain idea to run their office off a mobile hotspot does not mean you have to take the bait.
