Ricoh MP C3500 Network Support Firmware B2215605L_LRC0451 for SMB Scanning

    Hi everyone,

We recently decommissioned our last Server 2003 instance (I know, better late than never) and now are running on 2016 exclusively. Apparently the Ricoh MP C3500 appliances we have are unable to scan to folder via SMB now because it needs a custom Network Support custom firmware B2215605L_LRC0451 (v5.20e) dated December 5, 2012.

I have looked everywhere for this firmware, and have even paid someone 20GBP who claimed to have it (they sent me the Network Support Normal Firmware B2215605L dated July 16, 2010), so now I am out $28 and still don't have functional scanning.

We are a small shop and cannot afford to upgrade our units. Is there any chance someone here might have and would be willing to share the correct firmware? Please?

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Edit: Apparently Ricoh authorized techs can download it from here, IF you have a valid login: http://rfg-esource.ricoh-usa.com/ora.../rfg055925.zip

Unfortunately, the above file did not work. It contained B2385605L_LRC0451.fwu and I needed B2215605L_LRC0451.fwu, if anyone has it please let me know.

        Thank you all.

That custom firmware will not completely help you with scanning. The MP C3500 does NOT support anything higher than SMB1 even with that custom firmware. Your only option is to find a new scanning method, either email or FTP.

Turning on SMB1 server side is NOT a good idea and shouldn't be done under any circumstance, no matter how tempting or how many other people may recommend it.

B238 firmware is for the MP C2000/2500/3000.

I have the B2215605L_LRC0451 for both SD card and remote update but it will not help you. It only address a specific problem with the SMB1 on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. It does not add SMBv2/v3 support needed for Server 2016.

rthonpm is correct about SMB1 being disabled. If you turn SMB1 back on be aware that the next time Windows pushes a security update it will be turned off again.

MP C3500 was introduced in September 2006. That was over 16 years ago. Time to replace the beast before you have a part fail that is no longer available.

So you're saying, even with the custom firmware, there is no way to scan to Windows 10/Server 2016?

Unfortunately, we cannot afford to replace the three units we have in production, and (knocks on wood) they have not given us any issues thus far.

You don't need to necessarily replace them. Just use other ways to scan + print/copy functionality.
                    Bingo.

                      Bingo.
Is it not possible to simply configure the Ricoh to use SMB 2 and port 445, along with the custom firmware?

                      Instructions to do so:
                      1. Telnet (port 23) into your Ricoh device
                      2. msh> smb client auth (to display the current SMB setting; if value is "0" this means it is using SMB1.0 client & NTLM/LM authentication; if value is "1" this means it is using SMB2.0 client & NTLMv2/NTLM/LM authentication)
                      3. msh> smb client auth 1 (to change the current SMB setting to smb2.0)
                      4. msh> smb client port (to show current SMB port, default is 139 on older devices and 445 on newer devices)
                      5. msh> smb client port 445 (to change SMB port to port 445)
                      6. msh> logout (to logout and save configuration)

The problem is that a machine that old may not have any support for SMB2. There is a bulletin posted a couple of times here on CTN that lists the models for which has released SMBv2/v3 firmware support. If a model is not on that list, it does not support anything but SMB1. I believe, but not certain, that it has to do with the controller. Those that have firmware to support SMBv2/v3 have the GW+ controller. For the 35 ppm color machine that was introduced with the MP C3503.

                        You scanning options are;
                        1. pull scanning, TWAIN driver, which requires a software to do the pull scan.
                        2. sFTP, secure FTP, regular FTP opens a backdoor that hackers can use.
                        3. Scan to email but it will require an email provider that does not require TLS/StarTLS.

Thanks slimslob. From the bulletin here: https://www.ricoh.com/products/mfp20170727_1.html, I see the Aficio SP 3500SF/3510SF supports SMB2. Is this the same as the C3500?

I was also able to telnet into the machine and enable SMB2 via the CLI, so I assume it is supported, but I have not had a chance to update the firmware to the custom version dated 12/5/2012 yet (need to do after hours) and test SMB scanning.
