[Misc] IM C4500 / MP C4504 Series - Noise from Black PCDU

Problem: Noise is heard when the black PCDU is in motion. This can be verified through SP output check 5804-136 (Transfer Drum Motor K: Standard Speed on the MP C4504 engine).

Cause: The lube bar wears a deep "U" shape causing extra drag on the brush.

Fix: Scrape the sharpened edges of the lube bar until it is flattened and reinstall. This should remove the noise, preventing replacement before the end of the PCU's PM cycle.

    Hope this helps!

The lube bar is always U formed, how else could that be if the cleaning brush itself is round?
It would be a problem if the lube bar wasn't U-formed at all!
So, you flattened the lube bar and now the noise is gone?

Yeah all the Metis lube bars to this. It's a fairly hellish squeak when they really go for it too. Breaking the edge off the lube bar does get rid of the noise temporarily too.

The brush diameter is slightly less than the width of the lube bar so it does carve a lovely U-shaped groove in it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

The lube bar does develop a natural "U" shaped riding against the brush. When the noise occurs the brush has worn into the center of the lube bar. It has worn so far that 3/4 of the brush is covered by the lube bar causing a deep "U" shape.

Sometimes you do not need to trim the edges, just reverse the lube bar. If that doesn't do it, then trim the edges.

Especially if the bar is uneven from one end to the other.

for c2051 we order lubricant bars in China.
Strange that this lubebar has gone so quickly.
What is the counter of the black pcu?
