    Ricoh IM 7000 light copies

We have a Ricoh IM7000 that eventually sucks enough developer out to cause light copies. Developer was changed and the copies were fine. Fifty thousand copies later it did the same thing. A new developer unit with fresh developer was installed and the copies were great again. Fifty k further down the road, the same thing happened again. This time it got fresh developer and a new drum. The images look great but i worry it is going to happen again. I was hoping someone here might be able to offer a solution. When and if it happens again, my next step would be the high voltage board that supplies charge and bias. This is in a low volume environment. It was installed new about 3 years ago and only has 170k clicks on it.
    Thanks in advance.

if you changed the development unit, and the developer, it should not happen anymore, let's try to be optimistic

This same fault has happened to me in Ricoh MP8001, MP7502, MP7503 models. Change the imaging unit, the developer consumption is due to a failure of the quenching lamp and the cylinder is left with a residual charge, consuming developer.

Way back in some aging 2051/5500 we would have issues with the toner supply clutch in the dev motor assembly failing causing light copies. they were 10 year old machines with over 3 million copies but if your supply clutch is failing it could also cause light copies. you cant get the clutch separately it is part of the motor assembly.

I don't believe that is the case here. It is sucking enough developer from the developer unit to make the mag brush really thin and sparse. It isn't under-toned. Thank your for the response.

In the past sucking developer was usually caused by being under-toned.

You are using Genuine Ricoh parts and supplies?

This has been raised with Ricoh Japan and they are currently working on it, the only fix so far is to change the developer when the copy quality drops off. Not had a 7000 do it yet, just 9000's.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                Hit it.

I heard about the friction, but it has never happened to me.
but this problem happened to me years ago on mp5500, every two months I was changing the developer, then I discovered that the developer bags were old and poorly preserved, the technician before me kept them on the van for a long time, maybe hot and cold, he deteriorated the developer, since with a new supply it no longer happened on that machine.
