IM C3000 - Card Authentication Device is not connected

I've spent a couple days trying to get this dang message off this machine...Slim I saw some old post on here about this issue but nothing I've found so far has helped.

I'm just simply trying to get this message off, it is displaying in the top right corner. "Card Authentication Device is not connected"

When i go into the WIM i go to Uninstall and I see 33 applications (compared to 5 applications on another IM C3000 right next to it) when I try to delete things I keep getting a J811 error code on the WIM and a Error: -71 on the screen itself.

I'm assuming I need to delete some extended feature applications but I also don't mind just turning the message screen off if there is a why to do that. I only know how to turn the display IP address off.

Any help would be great, thanks!

I don't have full documentation on any of the IM series machines, but somewhere in either SP or Administrator settings there is a there is a setting for the type of external authentication device being used. It needs to be set to NONE.

Need to disable the card reader that used to be connected. Go to settings- system settings- network interface- control panel external interface software settings and select the proximity card reader setup and select do not use. Do it both locations and reboot

Slim I believe you are referring to 5-113-1 and 2. I have checked both those and they are set to "None"

Dale, I went to 5-420 and they were all set to 1, i put them to 0 and still have that message

Scott, when I am in interface settings I do not see that option for "control panel external interface software settings" am I going to the wrong spot?

You may have the classic user tool menu layout enabled in which case you will need to first login as admin then navigate to settings- screen features- screen device settings-Select IC Card/ Bluetooth Software Settings-Select IC Card Reader-The Proximity Card Reader will be detected- select and select do not use in all areas of this menu then reboot. Do you know what Software was installed on the device before?

Another possibility is the network security level. If the machine had preciously been set to a higher level than it currently is, any settings made at that higher level will either vanish entirely or be greyed out at a lower setting. You can also set more than one administrator, up to 4, with each having access only to specific areas.

                Scott this was exactly it!

Sorry for the late response, I set this machine aside and didn't bring it back out until just this morning to deal with it. I always do my best to follow up with what the solution was on the post I start. I appreciate all the help and suggestions.

Hello, I have something very similar going on, and I'm stumped. Have a Ricoh IM C2500 (off lease system). I've tried all the suggestions posted on this thread.
When first powered up says " Preparing Card Authentication Device" and CAP: Cannot connect from the configuration tool".
Then it gives a login prompt, allows me to log in with admin, (no PW) logged in as system admin..
I then log into the WIM, User auth is set to "custom authentication", I can set to OFF. The Administrator Auth Management is set ON to many features, I turn OFF all of them. Then the system works fine requiring no login. Until a power cycle, all the authentication settings turn back ON, and it goes back to requiring logging in to use the system.

I noticed the CAP or Card Authentication Package has the extended features of CAP V2 Auth. UI and ELP.NX V2. both of these are loaded extended features on this IM C2500, can I just uninstall them to stop the login requirement?

I appreciate all the info from fellow Techs, Thank you !

The first thing I'll do with any external authentication card on my off lease units, or any in general, is
                    5-113-1 and 2
                    5-846-046
5-801-7 through 11 (DO NOT DO #1 ALL CLEAR)
Never hurts to reformat the HDD in 5-832-001 as well

Then yes, I usually go to "uninstall additional program" in the WIM.

Not sure if you've already done this but hopefully this helps a bit

You may also need to check it a separate User Administrator has been assigned. If one has been then Admin cannot make permanent changes to "Custom Authentication"

THANK You!! So with off lease systems, we do the same procedures as ABS tect suggested. I re-applied them, no change. Then under Extended Feature info, select Uninstall.
And I uninstalled the 2 extended features associated with the Card authentication Package (CAP), which were CAP V2 Auth UI and ELP-NX V2,
ALL cleared off and fully functional, NO login prompts and the system stays OFF for the User Authentication Management.
                        Thank you, Problem solved !
