    RICOH 802.1x Problems

    Hi Everyone,

I'm not a copy tech and I've tried contacting Ricoh directly about this but they don't seem to have a lot of experience with 802.1x..
I came across this forum while Googling and thought, let's shoot the question here. I hope the question is not too much on the networking side, but maybe some of you have experience with this.

We use Cloud RADIUS for authenticating our devices using 802.1x or MAB.
We install certificates on our RICOH printers to be used in 802.1x on ethernet. Some Ricoh models work just fine including IM C300, C3000 and C4500.
But we have some lower end models like the P 502 which don't work with 802.1x. I use the exact same configuration on the P 502 as the IM models, but when I enable 802.1x nothing happens. The RADIUS server simply does not receive any requests.

The IM models are connected to the exact same networking equipment with the exact same network configuration.

Have any of you experience with this?

    Thanks in advance!

When you contacted Ricoh did you ask them about 802.1x or about configuring RADIUS authentication? The 802.1x setting in the u=interface settings is only a small part of setting up RADIUS authentication. In general IEEE 802.1x is a WiFi standard except when used in conjunction with high security Authentication protocols such as RADIUS. If everything else is not set properly, the Ricoh MFP just might think you are trying to use Ricoh's over priced POS internal WiFi interface and totally disable the wired network jack. The actual settings can vary by model. Some older models and printer only models have different way of entering User Tools and the Service Program to make settings needed there.

Ive now had about 5 calls in the last three years where their copier would not connect to their network. Someone had gone in and turned on IEEE. I turned that off and it all works like magic!
      I'm sorry dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Yeah they apparently think it will allow them to use WiFi.
