495 is a recycling unit error. Behind the flywheel and other parts there is a black casing that has two different outputs for collecting the recycled toner from the drum and the waste toner from the tx belt. This, and the output tubes, are probably completely impacted.
If you haven't done this, it is messy and will take a while. Watch all wires and make sure that the clutch is back into its slot when reinstalling.
Make sure the toner tubes are completely cleaned out and the mechanism that has a worm shaft to break down the toner before it gets pumped back to the dv hopper is completely cleaned out.Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Comptia A+, Comptia Network+ -
Use the forum search for more info on SC495. There are several posts on this particular problem.NEVER ASSUME ANYTHINGComment

And be sure to roll up your sleeves (and bring lunch, and maybe an MP3 player and head phones with you also).
These are definitely messy. But be thorough. Clean entire recycling system out. As well as photosensors
that are policeing recycling system.

In the past I've found it to be the photosensor in the back of the machine in the black plastic casing behind the hinging for the print controller. It's not the nicest job but there you go...
I've also found that calls to rectify this fault have been cut out altogether by following the PM schedule of 300k (but they usually run to 400k) and fitting the PM kit part number B140K300 which includes drum, dev and toner filters. Also, on alternate services, replace the toner recycling unit too.Comment

Llama, unfortunately this is an earlier model. That PM kit would be for the Ricoh 2060 series machine. Their recycling systems aren't too similar, but yes, on those models, the sensor in the back is a pain to get to and that will cure many of the 495 codes on those models. These are messy little beasts to clean all of the crap out of it.
I think Star and I have done a few of these, and they are so fun.
Once you knock out a few, they're not too bad.
Good luck on this one.Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Comptia A+, Comptia Network+Comment

Hi Bill,
No, you're right there, we didn't have a lot of them out. We stripped the recycling system out on the course at NRG about 2 years or so ago and it wasn't pretty! Hopefully we won't have to do it to our workshop printer, I know whose lap that heap of crap would land in...Comment

plug in the vacuum....you'll need it!!!!!!
The usual culprits are the toner recycling gear, part no. ab03-0720,the flat which keys it onto the shaft wears round, and so drive stops. the diaphragm on the toner pump tears, the black pipe from the spigot on the recycling unit to the pump blocks, the white pipe back to the dev unit, ditto. Also the spigot to the white pipe blocks and sometimes on top of all that the coil chamber sometimes blocks. the recycling unit is driven from the fuser drive and runs every 100 copies, when extra load comes on from the recycling the fuser drive is overloaded and the machine may not call an sc 495 but a fuser jam instead.chances are the machine will run ok until a 100+ copies are required then it calls the error (s)
When you strip the assembly from the machine be careful not to lose the bronze bush from the top end of the clutch. also put some toner magnet cloths under the assembly as you remove it from the machine to prevent toner from falling
While that's apart you may as well remove the toner outlet unit and clean that,Comment
