MP C3004 and MP C4504 Color Developer

Sorry if this has already been covered, I did my best to search the forum.

I know between the Ricoh MP C3004/3504 and the Ricoh MP C4504/6004, the Black PCDU, that is, the developer unit and the drum are interchangeable.

Now the color PCU's are not, and to my understanding it is because the Developer Unit is different.

My question, is the actual developer mixture different between the two, or is it a chip/wiring on the dv unit causing them not to work.

Motivation of the question is for toner usage between the two and also if I can switch DV units if necessary when in a pinch and just change the chip.

Specifically, I don't remember, my boss makes the spare parts orders, so I always mount the right ones, and I don't look, anyway in general, for all the models, if there is no physical difference, no impediment mechanical insertion into the slot, on similar models the compund of the developer is the same (I tried), usually the TD sensor changes, and / or the relative connections on the plug, or the shape of the plug itself, but there is always the trick! ... you can disconnect the old sensor, with harness and plug, using a heat air dryer, and paste it on the new group ... this speech is always to be understood in general.

Thanks. Yea I was going to look at the TD sensor with the harness and plug.

Honestly I guess all this time I've just been getting lucky or only ever needed to replace K PCU's because i've had these machines for awhile and just the other day popped a M PCU into a machine and it went in just fine but then the machine said it wasn't set correctly. There is a physical difference between the color pcu's on the 3004 and 4504, but then again there is also a slight physical difference from the 4504 and 4504ex pcu's sometimes and that's not an issue.

For ordering/saving purposes, I literally only buy MP C3003/3503 toner and use it in 4503, 3004, 4504. I've never had an issue with that but now I'm afraid I've doomed myself for the future if the developer compound is different for the colors in the 4504.

Anyways thanks for the help. I'll look into that.
