    IMC4500 refuses to staple booklets

    Hi guys,

Bit of a strange one, which has left me feeling rather defeated.
Customer has a Ricoh imc4500 with booklet finisher, which refuses to staple and fold booklets (A3 & A4) when printing documents from any application. If you choose to just fold and no centre staple it works fine, only when you ask it to staple and fold it cancels the job out completely. Under job history it just says deleted due to error with no explanation.
Both trays set to plain paper.

Setup using TCP/IP. Print configuration is correct with all the correct options selected/detected.
Tried printing same documents direct from usb stick with same issue.
The strange thing is that it copies fine with staple and fold!

Iv updated the machine and finisher to the latest firmware.
Tried every print driver available on Ricoh's site.
Tried it from my own laptop same result under windows 11.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as it's been on going for quite some time now. And like most things, was never an issue to begin with.

How many pages are there in the document? There is a limit that it can center staple.

slimslob I have tried a minimum of 8 pages and still the same. Can't remember the page limit for stapling on plain paper. I'm guessing 25?
It's just that fact it randomly stopped working one day.

i mean if it was working previously and works copying something had to change.

1 what tray is printing the a4 and a3 sizes? i assume you have 1 tray set to a4 SEF? have you tried printing on legal size to see if it works? If using tray 3/4 see if tray 2 makes a difference or the bypass
2 Is it set to plain paper 1 or 2. try changing to plain paper 1 for the trays if they are set to plain 2.
3 How specific are you being when trying the print settings? select the tray you want to pull from not auto select. set to the paper weight the machine is programmed to.
4 are all pages in the document the same size and orientation? 1 letter mixed in the middle of an a4 document might cause issues.
5 if you have all paper trays unloaded while sending the job see what it comes up asking for.
6 change the tray paper settings in the printer function to driver/command see how it reacts.

The fact that it will center fold indicates that the paper is SEF.

i have seen ricohs "work before" and then stop working. it's like they figure out they aren't supposed to do what you told it to do. also keep in mind. the specs for what the copier itself will do paper-wise, this does not translate that the finisher will do it as well. specifically, cardstock or certain other types of paper.
i would bet there is a setting somewhere that got changed.
plus, what slim said as far as the page limit that will staple.
is it adobe pdf files? is adobe updated?
