check the network shares and if the wifi network settings are correct, you must also have a good signal. Windows version?

It could be the USB wireless adapter. I have had some that completely block file sharing for the computer they are used with. Cannot scan to from MFP or copy read/write from another computer.

Agreed with Slimslob and Guiboss. Both seem spot on.

Alternative to try would be a wireless access point with lan connection. Something like a Tenda F9 will do the job. And it's not expensive about $35. And it will strengthen the wireless network. So it's a win, win, win

I'm wondering, how old are the laptops that they do not have builtin WiFi?

In Windows, is the wireless network configured as a Private network, or does it see it as a Public one? The firewall rules for a public network will disable SMB access.

Are the wired and wireless networks on a contiguous IP range, or on networks that are able to talk to each other?

What's the speed of the wireless adapters? At this point, anything lower than N is garbage and needs to be replaced.

Re: MPC4503 Lan cable scan ok,wireless cannot scan

I've delt with this issue before that's why I suggested going the route of using a wireless access point with bridge capability (WDS). Its the best solution with the least amount of call backs.

In my personal experiences when it comes to WiFi USB adapters and printing / scanning they can be problematic. (but that's just my experiences)

If still want to use the USB WiFi adapter I would suggest checking and changing the security and firewall settings for the WiFi adapter. There might be 3 settings. 1 will be windows firewall settings, 2 will be the antivirus settings and 3 the software supplied with the USB adapter might also have firewall settings.

                      Change those and try.

Also... You could try putting in a PCIe WiFi card. Works WAY WAY better then the USB WiFi adapter. Speed and signal strength in better. Cost is about $18 for a TP link 1.

If you have a portion of a building that is not wired for network and to do so would be difficult, a WiFi range extender coupled with a 5 port switch will allow you to connect up to 4 devices and costs under $50.00. If you need to add more devices get a larger switch.

Totally agree with Slimslob. Theres a lot of units under $50 that will work. And those have a lot less issues with better signal strength than a USB WiFi adapter
