    Ricoh SMC Reports

    Hi Experts,

I am beginner to Ricoh brand and I want to learn a lot of new things about this brand machines.

There are so many things mentioned in the SMC report. I was wondering is there any explanation about the SMC Reports in the service manuals.

OR is there any documentation about the details of SMC Reports like the basic things we know sections, error codes, jam history etc there are a lot of other things. I want to know all of them.

So can anyone help me with it ?

    Many Thanks 🙏

Let's say that to start, I would start with the sp 5-990 loggin data, which in my opinion is the most used in the field

SMC means Service Management Code. It is a brief history report on what has happened. It can be printed in total using SP 5990 or by individual sections by appending the 3 digit code for the desired section. With newer models it can also be exported to an SD card using SP 5991.

Exporting the SMC to SD card, with SP5-992, will give you better descriptions than just printing.

E.g. printed logging data will show the paper jam location SP7504-01-57 as "Registration Senso", whilst the exported log will show "Registration Sensor: Off"

Is there any option to export SMC to USB? For SD card we have to buy and then there should be a card reader. USB is readily available and easy.

I was checking Paper jam history where to find Paper jam location, date and time. I found it under "Plotter jam history" I was wondering what is use of this word plotter here. Its confusing.

Which reports are mostly required for diagnosing paper jam, print quality, PM etc

as I was telling you, usually the one that contains the information directly necessary to carry out a repair is the 5-990 "loggin data", I use that before starting any operation, I don't know why they use the word "plotter" I wondered that too, maybe because it is also used for the Ricoh plotter controller? ... or was it translated badly from Japanese, and they wanted to say something else?

Plotter refer to the print engine as opposed to separate copy function, print function and faxes printed. One thing to remember is that J001 will not be listed in the plotter history. It indicates that the last actual jam has not been cleared.

When you know what jam code you're getting then use the Jam Codes and Display Codes portion of the service manual.

Print quality is more a maintenance issue. Dirty laser shield glass or PCDU beyond maintenance count. A dirty ID sensor will also cause low print density.

Copy and scan issues are more often than not a problem with dirty scanner mirrors.

Check the service manual for PM Counter Display.
