2 things with my new 3245

I snatched a booklet finisher from a 2232c. It works fine... But... when I turn on the machine it shows the booklet finisher as jammed, all I do to clear it is lift the lid of the finisher and close it. It also does this whenever it comes out of sleep mode.

The other thing is I'm getting smears on the first few copies that I print in the morning and after I do the forced toner add thingy. (I only did that twice, the machine was in a warehouse for a year so I figured... WTH)

I have changed ALL devs and drums and I changed the PCU cleaning unit from another machine with 100K. But the streaks still appear.

The fuser also makes kind of a knocky sound. I know (I think) there was a TB out for that with some bushings or something. But its not really bothering me. The machine has 500K on it. Its got yellow covers and looks like a train wreck but that gave me a good excuse to keep it for myself.

I printed out 600 folded/stapled programs for a show that my wife directed. It worked great. I like this machine a whole hell of a lot better than that 1232 nightmare.

Its nice to actually use a machine instead of fixing them when they are broken. It gives you a completely different perspective. Unfortunately, when it does have a problem I have to yell at MYSELF in the mirror.

    Happy St. Patty's Day

The "knocky" thingy is probably the HR bushings and the smearing may be coming from there too. But if you are storing the machine in a cold environment then tre may be condensation on the drums in the am and that may be the smearing.
It is not unusual to get a little smearing after forced toner, but I have to ask why are you having to do so much of it?
I have no idea about the finisher except that having been attached to the 2232, it doesnt know how to act around a real copier.

I pulled the fuser out of my 100K machine and still had smears. (but no knocking). Is it possible it may be coming from the transfer unit? Oh crap I forgot to mention the smearing is on both sides of the copy. But I'm not duplexing.

      Thanks for your help.

        OK thanks for the help.

Now it sounds like a transfer cleaning unit. I know you switched it but it sounds that way. If the transfer unit hasnt been changed in 500k, it is worth a try.

Just the blade or the blade and spinny brush?

            spinny brush?
Don't get technical with me, sonny!
I would do both but there is a new cleaning assy which includes an added lubrication bar, which may aid in your solution.

For the transfer, the blade would be your main culprit, but there is an entirely new transfer cleaner unit available with a lubricant bar. Order that one.
Also, for the booklet finisher to work with a 3245c there were a bunch of part changes including the ROM on the controller board. You may want to try and find a newer version of the finisher or lug out the mylars per the TSB for the finisher.

As for your finisher malfuntion, this tech bulletin may help. I had the same thing happen and the new eprom took care of it.

By the way, SPINNY BRUSH? WTF

I can't seem to find any place to get the Eprom. My Ricoh supplier tells me it is not coming up as a valid part.

Can you tell me where you got yours? (My son is complaining about running up and down the stairs to lift up the finisher cover lol)

                      Thanks

Leave off the G. Only Lanier uses that.

Tha dealer we purchased that from is no longer in business. Jomama is right, leave off the G. You also might try www.hytecrepair.com. They do board repair, they may have one or bo able to flash your old one. I dunno.
