[CQ] MP402 Copy / Scan problem

    Hi All.
I picked up an MP402 the other day for refurb.
Apparently I didn't do a very thorough quality check at the time, and only printed a couple of configuration pages.
Today I was cleaning it up and testing, and the copies through the feeder are very light on the left side. Copies off the glass are fine.
I thought for sure it was just optical dirt/ dust, but I removed the glass and thoroughly cleaned the optics with no change or improvement.
B&W Scans through the ADF are generally pretty decent, and colour scans are not as washed out as the copies - but have a greenish hue.

I've attached samples made from a good configuration page.
The first page is a copy of that page, The second is a B&W scan, and the 3rd is a Colour scan.

I can't say as I've seen anything quite like this on any machine, and I have very little experience with this model.
It Almost appears that the scanner might somehow be out of alignment? But there is no sign of any damage and it appears aligned.

Any advice as always is greatly appreciated!!

Only time I've seen something like that is on the SPC252 family of machines where the black tape that holds the ADF slit glass in position parts in several places and allows light to bleed in.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Haven't had it on this model but have had similar and it was the ADF hinge not closing all the way and letting some light in.

I had a machine giving me blueish areas on scanning even after I cleaned the optics with a duster cloth. I ended up scrubbing the mirrors and slit glass with glass cleaner and problem solved. I could not see any residue on the optics, but it sure had something on them that needed glass cleaner to remove.

            Thanks Mika!!

Wow! I'm not going to lie, this is a bit embarassing .

I had that scanner cover off at least 5 times to 'clean' the optics with dry cloth, then alcohol, checking connections, etc.
As far as I could tell they were perfectly clean! But following your advice, I went back in and scrubbed with some glass cleaner, and VOILA!! Nice crisp images!

As the saying (here) goes, "sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees".
Thanks all for your input and getting me back on track!
