NO. Now if there were occasional times in excess of oh lets say 100ms then there could be a problem or one of the devices is occasionally busy with some other background function.

Yep, that's exactly what we hope for: < 1 millisecond is perfect. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

does it tell if the controller board has malfunction through pinging the machine?

NO. On most controller boards the ping response is handled by with chip that connects directly to the jack.

Why do you suspect a controller malfunction?

If there is one, pinging will most likely not find it. It only tests the network jack, the modem chip that the jack connects to and the communication control chip that controls the modem, i.e tells it to respond if the IP address in the ping is correct. It does not detect any of the date channels out of the communications control chip. I had open once where ping worked, WIM could be accessed, scan to folder and scan to email all worked but the print channel did not.

That sounds pretty nasty slim. I guess troubleshooting then was nightmare.

That's for sure. We have some Toshy back in the days where NIC was separated board like on older PCs.
Much cheaper than whole new main board. Not today ๐Ÿ˜‚

Some really early Ricoh digital models were the same.

Yep, Canon used to be the same way.

Nothing like needing to replace a $3,000 main controller because of a flakey $10 NIC.

Not to mention trying to explain that to a customer without a service contract.
