    [Jamming] C4000 Exit Jam

This is happening constantly not intermittently. I was there when it started happening and removed the jam. Nothing was torn. I gently forced some construction paper through to see if there was any obstruction. There was not.

I removed the booklet finisher and bridge unit. Still jams. Jam code is J020 (Paper exit sensor does not detect paper)

    Here is a video

Any ideas? You'd think this would be obvious, but I can't figure it out. It's like the exit rollers aren't spinning, but they are.

I would try a different exit section. I have seen where the sensor can be covered in toner.

I have never seen this before, like, ever. Is it a clutch or something? It was never intermittent, it just stopped. so strange...exit_rollers1.jpg

With a box this old, if you can get an exit unit, just replace it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

        Hit it.

Had a under 50K parts box.

replaced what were calling the exit unit. Although in my 30+ years I have not had to do this... but it IS old.

So the gear that drives those rollers was egged out or something I don't know what is supposed to be there but it was not turning those rollers.

          all good now

          this is what i replaced.

On the roller that is not turning, these older machines are notorious for the bronze bushings in the exit section causing a lacquer, dried oil, buildup on the roller shaft after years of usage. This causes it to be hard to tune the roller which eventually stalls and rounds out the gear that drives it. That is most likely what has happened to your machine. It is often only the bushing at the rear. With luck and a can of either de-greaser or contact cleaner. you can the bushing(s) loose. Do not use WD40 as it will quickly cause more lacquer build up. Use silicon oil or fuser oil to lube the bushing(s). You may end up needing a replacement gear if it has gone too long.

That's the bugger. Lost count of how many of those screws you had to take out of the back of it behind the fan ducting.

I always found it easier to remove the DF and scanner in order to get at the exit section.
