    MP C3300 problems

    Hi all,

I'm having a couple of problems with this machine. It only has about 3k copies on it and was installed in late Jan of this year.. Recently it has been getting a SC 816 code ( Energy saving I/O sub-system error )
that clears by rebooting but returns at different intervals. The customer can't tell me when it happens as it is used by multiple people. I may have to sit and watch it for a few hours to see. Anyone have this issue show up or heard about it?
Second problem is that when they try to print a document from Microsoft Publisher the spooling starts but never seems to finish. The file is 35 megs. Is there a limit to the size of file that can be printed? Smaller files seem to have no problem. I couldn't find anthing about maximum file size in the service manual or guide. I havn't worked that much with printing and scanning. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

just throwing it out there but...

check for power problems/old wiring/flickering lights/overloaded surge suppressor for your i/o sub system error

Try a different print driver for your publisher spool problem. If you're using RPCS try the PCL6 and vice versa.
Information is intended for certified service personnel only. Your mileage may vary, see dealer for details.

The first thing I would do is update the firmware to the most current version. This seems to cure a lot of phantom problems. Make sure you update all of the firmware and not just they System and Copy files.

As far as the printing, Publisher seems to be a pain sometimes. Try updating the print driver to the most current and then try another driver (PCL 5, PCL 6, RPCS). Check the port set up and change it to LPR port, with the name "lp" (no quotes). In my experience, the PCL 6 driver sometimes does odd things and I prefer the PCL 5. Hope this helps.

I replaced controller to get rid of Sc.816, Board is still under warranty by Ricoh. Updated firmware, no improved. New board solved problem.

I'm happy you solved the problem! Just wanted to barge in with some thought and memories...

I delivered an MPC2800 in january that I didn't have time to test, I just assembled it and went straight out to the customer (big nono, I know but it was the salesguys fault, damn stress they cause sometimes). Of course murphys law applied and I got stuck with a machine that produced lines all over the prints. All colors, with equal distance. Funny thing was they were vertical and not horizontal as most other lines.

After changing I/O Board, upgrading firmware, formatting the harddrive and running all tests in the book I had to change the ICU to solve the problem. I then changed back to the original I/O board and the problem came back. A little confused I then changed both boards again so I was back with the original ICU and the new I/O board, but the problem was still there. When I changed both cards the problem disappeared, for a day... then it came back. Unable to put the customer through more hassle we had to get the machine exchanged for a new one, sending the first one back to the supplier, within guarantee of course. I still have no clue what the hell was wrong with it, but I can tell you no matter how pressed the situation may be in the future, I will NEVER EVER let a machine go out that hasn't been tested throughly again.

And a note about the drivers; We've discovered that when using PCL6, prints tend to hang more often than when using PCL5. We've been installing PCL5 drivers only since over a year back and almost never have any problems with hangups or incomplete prints. It's what I'd recommend any day of the week!
          Peace sells, but who's buying?

I appreciate all the suggestions and will try new/updated print drivers when I go back next week.

category_five, I was thinking about bad power as the area the machine is in is notorious for it. Of course it never affected their old IR 3300. I'll see if I can get the line checked.

Ltd, was your Sc816 intermittent like mine or was yours a hard failure that you couldn't clear?

cobiray, the firmware is already at the most current version. It was the 1st thing I checked.

            Thanx again !
