    IMC3000 firmware update

    Hi

to update the firmware using USB you must put the .pkl file into a "package" folder is'n it
then in sim modus choosing firmware update' the media it says "NO MEDIA"
strange because there is the folder package with an pkp file in it

    anyone?

You dont update via USB you do it via SD Card in slot 2
on the root of the sd create a folder called Package
put the .pkg file in the Package folder

In this model (unless it has been disabled), you can also use the slot on the left side of the op pnl to update firmware...

USB at the control panel also works, I do it all the time. There should be just the package directory containing the relevant .pkg file, in this case D0BL5559P.pkg. Make sure the drive is formatted correctly as FAT32. Also I think there is a size limitation on the drives, not sure what it is though.

I think what we have here is GeorgeBest at his usual worst. Look at his post. He said .pkl instead of .pkg. If he put the wrong extension on the file, the IM C3000 is not going to recognize it.

I noticed that too. I just assumed a typo in his post...(and I also just remembered what happens when we "ASSUME".)

Update - I just did this on an IM C3500 and can confirm that USB from the control panel works, with a correctly formatted drive of 8 gigs.

...And then also called it 'pkp' at the end, so Yeah...what a beaut!
I guess he's trying to find out if anyone else has had success trying to update firmware using the entirely wrong procedure

What formatting app did you use?

I just format in windows usually. If you have problems with doing it that way there is a specific utility you can download from SD Memory Card Formatter | SD Association since this is the standards org for SD cards.

I've been using it with my SD cards for many years, but was wondering if the USB drives required a particular tool/utility?

Not that I've found, though some programs can partition and format them in ways that make them unusable until they get repartitioned/formatted back to a single partition.

I have used MiniTool with SD cards to create a 1 GB partition on cards that are too large to use with Ricoh and allow me to install software from them. I have never tried to make multiple partitions as they are not easy to mount with Windows as they are with Unix/Xenix/Lynux based systems.

As far as I can tell it is IM series only. They will also do a network update if they can get outside the local network. The advantage of doing that is you can set up auto-updates and choose the time for the update/reboot outside of business hours, minimizing downtime for the customer and onsite calls for your techs. You don't want to do a network update during a service call as they can takes a long time (> 1 hour sometimes) but starting one at days end can be an option.
