    IM 4000 Developer build up

    Hi all I have a brand new IM 4000 installed Jan 2022 with 82023 clicks on the PCDU, target yield is 160K. I'm getting devo build up on front side of dev unit(mainly) and rear end; then spills over and makes dirty copies/prints due to the excess. Mag roller looks good(not black) all plastic guides are set correctly. And I also want to mention I've seen this exact same issue at different accounts. Thoughts? Has anyone else see this?

    Thanks in advance!

    One thing that I have encountered with older models is paper lint buildup in the toner recycle transport coils.

      Haven't seen one of those yet, but I imagine it's quite similar to the 54/55 series, which seemed to have a similar issue.

        ~80k until first service is kind of average for this (imho) crap engine. You might hit 120k in optimal conditions (p/job, monthly volume, paper quality, star constellations). If the customer is not too demanding you can just clean everything and it will last ~60k then you can perform the proper maintance with a kit.

          ME, I'm having the same problem, it's the developer that is excessively contaminated, however, I have verified that the consumables do not reach 160k, let alone 120k on slower models, however, there is a sp ( that I don't have here at hand) which allows the toner recirculation device to adjust the percentage amount of waste toner back into the drum, rather than into the waste tray, by acting on the tilting window of the unit itself, but I haven't yet tried to test it, I think that if you recycle less waste toner, the developer should logically last longer, in this post I am referring to the mp2554/4054/5054, the im 4000 is basically the same machine...if you seek in sp table on SM, you can find it.

            ERRATA CORRIGE:
            I checked on the SM, it's sp 3-551-009, and I remembered wrong, you can choose not in percentage but, you can choose between 3 conditions:

            0=switch auto
            1=waste all
            2=recycle all

            I'll save you time by attaching the manual page, the first mc I rebuild the pcdu I try to insert "waste all" so the developer only works with new toner, and let's see how it goes... p.s. I advise the development group to empty it and fill it without disassembling it, I noticed that it is easier for it to leak even when replacing the gaskets

              I just wanted to thank all for the nuggets...I asked my fellow techs and no one was experiencing this and Ricoh tech support really had no answer but to order a new PCDU...glad to hear it's out there and I'm not going crazy.

              Great find Luca, thank you!
