    SC 541 Ricoh 2060

Ongoing SC 541 (center thermistor fails to read) on a 2060. Recently replaced thermistor - cleaned main contacts on fuser main connector - when I serviced the unit the fuser temperature dislplay indicated that the end and center thermistors were reading correctly. This problem has been recurring for some time now - I have recently been assigned for the troubleshoot.

Any suggestions on possible cause is appreciated - thank you.

Check the wire harness on the fuser for bare spots that may be grounding out.

Do you have the updated thermal switches in the fuser? We've been putting all(3) of the higher temp's in. I think the p/n is AW110066.

We have many of these sc 541, 542 and 555 in Ireland due to the variations in temp. We normally advise the customer to leave the copier on overnight in sleep mode and also enable pre fuser idling and it works more often than not, again check all the wires at the rear of the fuser- they can get snagged and become shorted.

Bonnie750 is correct with the part numbers. They issued a tech bulletin for this problem. They changed the design of the thermostats ( the new style have black painted rivets in them) and they suggested a certain way to install the thermostats. I believe it was to make sure the wiring harness leads were on top of the thermostats instead of underneath, and to tighten everything down to the max. I still get these erroneous codes on occasion, but not as much as I use to.

              541 Problem Resolved

I want to thank everyone who posted to this thread in an effort to help me out - all very good / valuable suggestions / ideas for troubleshooting this problem (SC541).

After checking for proper thermostats/thermistors - all associated wiring and checking the Ricoh site for possible TSB information I discovered that the fusing unit was disengaging from the rear/frame connector. To confirm this I entered SP mode for fusing unit temperature diaplay - cheated both front door switches - then manually moved the fusing unit in and out - less than a 1/4 of an inch play - the dispaly would jump from 192 degrees to 0 degrees - code would then display. Solution - adjust docking pin on left side of main frame to secure fuser tightly in place - once adjusted there was little to no play - connector was now seated securely.

Thanks again for everyones help - hopefully the problem has been resolved - if it does return I will post an update.

I am glad you found the issue.

I have been changing all the thermostats to aw110066 as cobiray suggested. I also change out the middle thermistor w/ the one from the MP3500 (AW100111). It does not have as much surface area to collect toner.
