[Electrical] Ricoh SP C250sf - "density sensor require cleaning" error

    Hi everybody,

I have a Ricoh SP C250sf color laser printer, and when I power it up, it errors with the message:
    Density Sensor
    Require Cleaning

I tried the obvious of using the blue lever inside the printer, but the error persists.
The service manual does not help much.

I removed all toners, cleaned the toner residues from the transfer belt, tried blowing compressed
air in order to get rid of possible dust - nothing helped.

Have you ever encountered this error?
Can you suggest how to proceed fixing this issue?
Can it be an error with the sensor itself? Is it expensive? Easy to replace?

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    - Barak

It is referring to the sensors on the density sensor assembly. refer to the Electrical portion of the parts catalog. Also could be the ID chip in the service manual but Ricoh has a nasty habit of not using the same terminology in the parts catalog as used in the service manual. Clean with a soft cotton cloth slightly moistened with water. Any other type of cloth could cause static that would destroy the sensors. Anything other than water could either leave a film or damage the sensor lens.

Once you remove the ITB, the density sensor assembly will pivot freely, allowing you to clean it with a soft cloth.

          Thanks everybody for the assistance!

The issue ended up as a problem with the toners (low grade refilled toner) - the black cartridge was "stuck",
so I guess it didn't produce any black toner on the belt, and the sensor (that was expecting some reading) didn't
get a reading, and indicated an error.

At least, this is my guess, since I replaced the black toner and things are back to normal now.

          Thanks again for the help!

nothing to say about the other suggestions but I also confirm the possibility of the defective toner
