Not sure what ADF, sep roller, or SC-687 event is but hopefully I can now check this off my list.
    Thank you again.

Had several ADF jams in history. Cleaned ADF feed belt, sep roller, and all ADF sensors. While testing machine is freezing up. Ran event log and had SC-687's in recent history. Tried formatting HDD but machine just freezes. This machine is used for copying only. Machine had a 320GB HDD, replaced with a 160GB HDD. Formatted HDD. Power cycled machine and came to ready. Ran test copies with no more issues. Verified all functions (print and scan) appeared on screen. Machine is used only for copying and scanning to thumb drive, machine tested ok.
Your statement that "Machine is used only for copying and scanning to thumb drive," indicates to me you have doubts that the HDD may have been at fault. If so, please understand that the drive is indeed used for these functions. Being that HDDs are cheap and mechanical, they sometimes fail and so need to be replaced. The SC code found is THE indication of your failure.

To me, the first part of the post was a quoted statement from the tech's work order indicating what he'd done, etc.

The whole paragraph was his report on the work order. I try to go with the technician when there is a repair to ask questions and learn what I can. Sometimes I have to be in two places at one time or at least that is the way it seems. I will replace toner and image drums and fusers if I can get a fuser sent to me but most of the time I assign IP numbers and make sure they are installed in the correct place. When something is not working correctly, I'll try to figure it out but if I can't, I come to forums like this where the smart people live and get some help. Thank again.

Sounds exactly like the type IT idiot whom real techs hate to have around.

            Respectfully Tim,
I thought he did exactly what was required, and explained it very well, and pretty much how I detail my own work orders
