yes, I had seen it, (I don't understand what he did?).
..my boss thinks that the machine's hostname has been changed several times, and the previous traces are still stored in the router, but obviously with the same mac-address, a bit, like when for example you see on your google account some devices that have been connected to the network, even if they are no longer present.

Re: How to change MAC Address Ricoh MP 4054
Look back at the first page.
It's a screen shot of the WIM in one of the machines, showing the MAC address.
That view does not come from the router, at least AFAIK. It's hard coded into the network card of the MFP.
BTW...There is constant confusion (and one of my pet peeves) on CTN with "MAC" being short for "Macintosh". They are NOT the same thing.
"Mac" = "Macintosh"
"MAC" = "Media Access Control"

Re: How to change MAC Address Ricoh MP 4054
I remember the early days of cable internet I had to purchase a cable modem from someplace like Best Buys and run a setup disk from the ISP. The setup disk obtained an IP address for your computer, created your account with ISP and recorded your computer's MAC either on your modem or with the ISP account. That one computer became the only thing that could connect to the internet through that cable modem. Later when I went to wireless, the first Linksys router with WiFi had one of its setup steps being cloning the MAC of your computer. In fact even the Cisco/Linksys E2500 that I am currently using has "MAC Address Clone" as one of the setup tabs. That is the only way I know of where 2 devices can appear to have the same MAC.
Now I have seen where the master browser has reported matching computer serial numbers when the serial numbers were too long and the master browser truncated them so the 5 computers purchased from the same vendor at the same time appeared to have the same number. I have also seen IP address conflicts on MFPs. I wonder if that is the actual overlap the original poster has?Leave a comment:

Hostname can be a life saver when you have a small business that makes it a habit of frequently changing their ISP with no router between the ISP's modem and their LAN. More often then not the ISP installer leaves the modem set for whatever the factory DHCP and LAN subnet are. Very often the third octet can be different from the previous modem.Leave a comment:

Re: How to change MAC Address Ricoh MP 4054
The most logical explanation, if the description we've been given is accurate, is that one machine is set to DHCP without a reservation and he's seeing some old entries for the same MAC address floating around with different IPs.Leave a comment:

Hi Slimbob, @remote and meter readings have nothing to do with MAC addresses.

Re: How to change MAC Address Ricoh MP 4054
Okay, lets assume that Ricoh f'd up and issued 3 of the same Mac Addresses. And lets assume that a copier company bought all three machines. And lets assume that the sales dept. sold those 3 machines to the same company. That's a lot of stuff that has to line up. But fine. Lets assume it happened. Again, I'm not buying it, for the record.
Here's my next question: Why is the OP on here asking how he can change the Mac Address? I'd be on the phone with Ricoh raising hell. No?Leave a comment:

Re: How to change MAC Address Ricoh MP 4054
Fact is he does not have 3 machines with the same MAC address and his problem lies elsewhere on his network and he needs to address that and get over it being a machine problem.

Re: How to change MAC Address Ricoh MP 4054
Let's just assume for a minute that a company fucked up and issued the same Mac Address 3 times. I don't believe it but lets assume. What are the odds that an individual just happened to end up with those 3 machines? I would say that the odds would be astronomical.

What are the odds of two devices having the same MAC address?
zero
What is the probability of having two identical MAC addresses within one network? The IEEE manages MAC addresses. The hardware identification addresses that the IEEE distributes are unique. That makes the probability of matching MAC addresses zero.
