SP5300DN weird artifact lines on paper

    Hello!

I have a Ricoh SP5300DN which I'm having a printing issue with. I am not an expert at this but using this forum in the past I have been able to solve certain issues. 6 months ago I replaced my primary charge roller and it had resolved a printing issue I was experiencing back then. However I now have a new problem and cannot diagnose it. I have cleaned my fuser, and cleaned my primary charge roller with warm water and soap. I cannot figure out what is causing these lines. Any assistance would be grateful ! Here is a picture of the printing issue, and a picture of the fuser open. I know which roller is the fuser (red) but what is the roller that seems to be made out of metal? I have it circled in green. I have tried cleaning that one as well with no success.

    Thank you

    Walter

Here is a better picture. I am not sure how to upload high resolution photos to this website.

7I would say that you have destroyed the charge cleaning roller by using hot soapy water on the charge roller. The proper way to clean the charge roller is with a soft lint free cotton cloth slightly dampened with water only. And there should be at least one layer of paper between the charge roller and the cleaning roller to prevent the cleaning roller from getting damp.

I have found another panel that opens on the back of the printer, perhaps this is the fuser unit? I am unsure of these terms. I can't tell if there's anything back here I can wipe down to remove that smudge/artifact/line that is appearing on the paper.

I figured it out ! I found the roller that I had to clean! I will post a picture of it.

In the past I would pull out the tray that holds the toner and I would have to clean those rollers to resolve printing issues. However this issue was NEW to me and I wasn't sure what to do. Having never done this before, I opened up the back of the printer and found 2 more rollers I had never seen before. One of the rollers is orange in color and it appears to be soft. The roller above it seems to be a BRONZE color and I found a gear to the left of this roller which allowed me to rotate it, and as I was rotating it I found the exact "smears/smudges" that were showing up on my paper. It almost looked like toner had baked onto this bronze roller. I am not an expert and typically have no idea what I'm doing but one thing I've learned is that if paper is coming out NOT clean then somewhere there is a roller needing to be cleaned. I have also learned from my mistakes for example a few years ago I started cleaning down my primary charge roller with rubbing alcohol and it ruined it eventually, completely drying it out. I ordered a new one and it took me a while to figure out how to install it but I was successful. Thank you !

Oh I forgot to mention, I dislodged/removed the "baked on toner" from that bronze roller using Qtips. Hopefully I have not fked anything up LOL but it is printing perfectly again.

I take it that you don't have a service manual. Get one before you totally brick the machine.

I think you mean the black Teflon coating that is there to help keep sheets of paper from sticking. If it is, you now need a NEW fusing unit.

It's probably a good idea. I will have to look for one. I'm pretty sure those little fragments of what I believe was baked on toner was not part of a coating. Since removing them it's printing perfectly again. I wouldn't know what it looks like but there doesn't seem to be any type of coating on that bronze colored roller.
