No major differences between this new models and the old ones. A new ADF and what we expected all new toner and new developer. A new version of Fiery is now embedded in these new models.
Let's hope that our Halo, banding and charge/pre-transfer roller problems will run away.

    Just toner modified

    Sorry guys...
Just the toner is different...same dev...here is the bulletin

    SUBJECT: D078/D079 - DIFFERENCES
    GENERAL:
    1. Spare Parts
Listed below are the unique spare parts for the Pro series (D078/D079). Please add the following to your
    current D014/D015 parts catalog.
    REFERENCE
NEW PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION QTY PAGE ITEM
    D0461468 Keytop: Blank: Blg-C1 1 23 28
    D0787201 Operation sub-Unit: Pro: NA: Ass'y 1 23 *
    D0787450 ADF: Ass'y 1 25 1
    B6522384 Original Table: Behind 1 27 33
    2. Toner Interchangeability
There is no toner interchangeability between the D014/D015 series and the D078/D079 series.
The toner bottles for these products do not correspond as they are shaped differently.
    3. Service Documentations
There are no mechanical and firmware differences between the D014/D015 series and the D078/D079
series other than the items listed above.
For this reason, a unique version of both Service Manual and Parts Catalog will not be released for
    D078/D079 series.

So if i read it right the only "real" difference is the toner but you can't interchange- WTF?

There are no mechanical differences or firmware so the new toner will in theory work with the old model but ricoh have changed the bottle design to stop you fitting it.

So i presume then that ricoh are putting the new toner in the old bottle design as everything else is the same (stick with me) as the toner is better and doesn't give the problems like the old stuff

It will be difficult to transfer toner from the new soft bottles in the empty C6000 ones and we don't know if the bottle chips won't be different too. Mechanically C6000 is not a bad machine, like 3260 and 5560 so nothing to complain o n this side. I'm really curious if the developer fill up procedure is fixed on this new model or will be the same nightmare like on the 6000's. I don't have one (1) machine to run smooth when you fill up the dev. Usually Magenta and Cyan fails and you must do it again.
Let's wait to see this baby in the field. Reducing the speed (if Pro C550...means 55 color prints/min) could be another fix for the problems...but as they mentioned...firmware is the same...so let's see. Pretty sure I'll see them in one month or so.

I hope you're right Bishiop. I wouldn't be surprised if they want to use the new better toner but they can't due to having a contract issue or surplus inventory to use up first. Too bad we can't convert the do14 into the new one. I knew the machine was too fast, especially for the hard core full bleed users.

I may be way off base, but one of the "features" of the new model is a "one-click" all size pricing strategy along whit a Fiery controller to compete in the Print for Pay market. My thought was that perhaps the new toner will have a significantly lower cost to help offset the "one-click" strategy.

If the new toner was a solution to some of the problems we're all are having I can't see why Ricoh wouldn't make it available for the current models. But then again, why would Ricoh price the same drum so drastically differently in the MPC3000 series between the black and color drum part numbers. Gee...I wonder .....

If they go down the surplus stock route then they wont have to compensate everyone for new devs etc to purge the crap toner so i suspect they will rely on bulletins untill its all gone.
