The problem still could be the paper feeler. Mot broken bot just one or both of the pivot pins popped out of place. This allows the flag end to not align properly with the sensor. Very common for the models that used that particular paper feed design. As long as neither of the pin are not broken you should be able to pop them back in place.

Agree with Slim, if the paper empty does not light up, it's probably the sensor arm off it's holder or a bad sensor.
Other common issues with the 2550, make sure the white tray lift gear is not cracked. And take the back off and check the photo interrupters for paper size, Tray presence and lift.
They often pop out of their holder, especially the size sensors.

@slimslob: thank you, I'll try to check them better, i just wathced better the image on the manual and now i have the doubt that the part that should go throught the sensor could be broken.

@StephenB: thank you, i've checked that sensor (was my first guess) and it's on it's place, i'll give a look also to the lift gears.

        I'll update!
        Thank you again!

          +1 for paper end sensor
But check also the machine during work, if the red "paper end" light turns on and off during work... Then probably the paper tray dont actuate correctly the "paper size/tray presence sensor" inside the machine.
Had this issue in a few machines

if both cause problems, it could be a strong accumulation of dust, the ideal would be to dismantle both pick up stations from the machine, and give it a good blow of air....just to start off

Hello again, with much calm i went today to my friend (after a long wait to get the paper feeler..it tooks about 1 month) i checked and both the feeler were broken (the small part that pass thought the sensor), i replaced both and seems that both sensors works fine now BUT....new problem, when i switchthe copier on, it gives immediately "Erorr J001 - Paper jam" and seems that something is wrong exactly where i "operated" I think (and hope) it's a sensor, maybe dirty, tomorrow i'll air-spray around there and maybe i'll disassembly again the upper tray zone where the feeler stay. Every suggestion would be appreciated 😊

Could be the paper tray aswell they tend to break when they lock into the copier. There was a mod for this. Try holding the tray in when it's feeding

I will surely try thank you, also if I'm afraid I tried without the whole tray and the error was there (it report in the section A...seems exactly the part where the paper feeler is..maybe I touched something there 🤦🏻), but I'm not sure (so many tries that I don't remember anymore) tomorrow I'll try it

Joo1 us a jam found at power on, i.e. an improperly cleared jam. Check the jam log to see where the last actually jam occurred. Check the sensor for that code for damage or a scrap of paper.
