Ricoh C4000 will only duplex plain paper (splits all other types of paper)

    Hi Guys,

I'm dealing with a Ricoh C4000 that will separate any duplex job onto two separate sheets whenever any other paper option other than "plain" is selected.

For example- customer can print a two page document duplexed no problem with plain. However, if they try to print the same exact job on glossy or cardstock, it will print on two sheets of paper. (Front on one page and rear on another.)

I've tried different types of files (Image, PDF, word, etc) and no luck.

Could this be an issue with the duplexer not handling heavier stock? Or would this be more of a hardware settings issue?

Sounds more like a setting problem unless the other papers are heavier stock. The paper trays can handle up to 256.0 g/m2, 68 lb. The duplex only up to 169.0 g/m2, 45 lb.

Back to settings. User Tools - System Settings - Tray Paper Settings. There is an option for each tray of Apply Duplex. If a tray has been changed to NO. then you cannot duplex that tray. The bypass cannot be used for duplex due to a paper path conflict.

I believe the paper is digital laser 100 lb glossy cover. Would the only option be for them to print their run single sided and the re-run it back for the reverse?

Yes but. with that heavy of a glossy paper they are liable to get a lot of jamming. If they/you are going to do a lot of that type jobs you will need a straight through or nearly straight through paper path printer.

just a thought. Try increasing the I/O buffer size. Usually, if it prints on plain, it should print duplex on other stock, but give it a try anyway, as the memory size does affect duplex printing.

try to check that in the paper cassette setting, where the weight is indicated, the "apply to duplex" item is selected
