    Ricoh 220 A265 sc901 + sc120

    Ok folks, here's my saga.
I have a very cheap customer who does his own service, mostly. I came in to the rescue because he put his adf belt bracket on upside down after he replaced the belt, tire and sep tire. I incompleted the call for a T1 feed clutch as it was jamming a bit. He elected to buy the clutch and put it in himself to save on another labor charge, but screwed up the machine somehow while doing it. When I came back, it was doing this:
with cover open, screen is on, displays close cover
with cover closed, screen goes blank, PSU clicks repeatedly

the only way to stop the clicking relay was to turn it on with the IOB unplugged. After reseating most of the connectors, I got the machine to turn on normally with a display on the screen, but now it displays sc901 or sc120. If you do sp 5-810, the wrench light turns off for a half-second and relights again. The mechanical total counter is connected just fine, BTW.

So these folks have paid me two hours of labor so far and I want to be sure the estimate I draw up for them includes everything they might need as I never want to see these bozos again. So far I'm planning to do the IO Board but I wonder if it may need firmware reloaded. Any help is appreciated as I've never seen a copier do the bizarre things this one is doing.

BICU is mostly the one responsible for your problem...if everything is OK in the scanner area (mechanically).

Check that there's no misrouted wire that could be shorting to the frame anywhere.

I seem to remember a 1022 I went to a while back doing all kinds of crazy crap (Various SCs, suddenly going dead when I pushed the tray in with PSU clicking etc) because the paper feed harness has been misrouted and was frayed and shorting against the frame.

My spidey sense is tingling especially because you gave them a feed clutch and they've been dicking around in that area.

I think one of the wires in the ADF is shorting, by opening the cover you have removed feedback to the main board, If the board was bad it would probably do it all the time.

          Thanks

Thanks, guys, awesome suggestions. I miss these things when I'm on a chargeable call cause I'm rushing I guess. But we gave them an estimate for both I/O and BICU boards that totaled over a thousand dollars. This may convince them to buy a newer machine! I never call my customers cheap, normally, but these folks have a large, sharp chip missing from their main glass and they refuse to replace it for forty bucks. I told them, "Good thing this is an attorney's office in case one of your employees cuts his hand on this and sues you."

Maybe the person responsible for the financial decisions trips on a wire, hits his/her head on that chipped glass and the resulting hole in the head could be used to pour some common sense inside.
