2232c grinding noise from trans unit

i can actually see the gears on the trans cleaing unit struggling to turn when its making the screeching noise. transfer unit works fine when u remove the cleaning unit. cleaned the gears on both unit. works fine for a few days and then back to normal again.

replaced the trans unit with the cleaning and still the same.

    what can it be?

    trans unit is seated correctly.

    Hey,

I also had a problem like this one but on a 3245C, a bit the same machine.
My solution was to swap the gears with those from the old unit. I guess there are 2 gears on the back of the unit, and one of them is too short and slips.
Try it with a cleaning unit from a af3245. I think only the cleaning blade is different.

    hope it works.

      Oh, nono

I did this accidently and a few days later a work mate was very pissed on me because he had to vac the inside of the machine. The wrong unit does "fit" without any problems but there seem to be some differences with the waste toner nozzle or something like that.

      @ash:

Maybe the transfer/cleaning unit isn't the problem. You should try to check all drives with the output check.

This noise can be a pain to fix not to mention cause banding when doing color copies. I have had to replace the motor inside the unit along with the belt that goes to it. In addition with one case one of the shafts in the T-unit was worn on the end so it put too much drag on the motor. It sucks but I would pull out all shafts on the unit and check them then put some oil on them along with replacing those two parts.

Is there any-black-toner on transfer unit gears teeth? If you vacuum there, does this fix the grinding noise?

I had a similar problem recently - ended up being 2 bad ITB blades in a row. I put a whole cleaning assy in because I figured it would be built with parts from a different lot.

I remember having these noises on the CL7000 printers. The cleaning unit would warp and rub on the tension roller on the underside of the belt assembly. We had to scrape the front right edge of the cleaning unit with the backside of an exacto blade to eliminate the rubbing.

Look at spare parts : '20.Toner Supply Section' part number 14. Maybe you have vacuumed away a small transparent seal (p.n 15) and it scatters toner all around...
Otherwise put a lot of dusting powder on trns. blade to check if that is the cause for grinding. Good luck!

I have had some success with slightly reducing the spring tension on the ITB cleaning blade.
Don't take that toner with me!
