    MP3500 grey background

This a fairly new problem on this machine. New drum, blade and charge roller, transfer belt and blade and new dev 4k ago. After vacuuming out the whole lot and cleaning up the mag roller the background reappears after 200 - 500 copies. All the values in sp are good optics spotless, any ideas please?????

Add the previous to the list of really stupid answers seen in the forum!

Background would either be lack of charge on the drum rather than poor earth, overtoned, or bias issues (continuity from power pack to front of mag roller?).

Try applying RainX to the mag rollers after a thorough scrubbing, I have tried it a couple of times with good results so far.

I went back to this call yesterday(tues) and replaced the dev, with mp4000 dev and used spurrious toner along with all the recommended cleaning procedures. between the and this afternoon the machine has done 5.5k and the copies are perfect!! Would you believe it

A few technical bulletins exist on this. Including one about changing some values in service mode, one about a new mag roller with a special coating on it to prevent buildup, and another (3rd I think now) toner change.

I think we've all just about "been there, done that" by now. ref all the other threads on the forum.

I've been able to adjust the TD (Vref) value to reduce the TD in some cases. I generally try that first provided the density on the paper is sufficient. If the background goes away AND my blacks are still solid, I let it go at that.

I've seen the latest bulletin. Haven't had a need to try it out, yet. Although, with the new toner (you can no longer get the old part number) you need to service the machine when you deliver the new stuff in order to change the sp settings to work with the new toner.

We just got the new toner in and I haven't had a chance to see with the effects of NOT changing the bias settings will have when the new toner get mixed into the old toner still in the developer and when it is 100% new toner in same. The next few weeks will be interesting......but then again, I'm off next week....

                          Developer is the same 3500/4500 & MP4000/5000.
If the problem will be back I'll suggest to try the new mag roller B0823101 or the new dev unit B2133011.
I had couple of those machines with identical problems like you...on some was the mag roller, on others was the TD sensor.

I have now merged the list of parts I carry for this machine with the 1224c - hunk of chain and a bag of concrete - instant boat anchor, just add technician crying his eyes out because the #$%&!@ sales people keep selling these things.

Seriously though, just saw this again today. Drum ground gets flaky - this should be a particular suspect since the machine magically healed itself (temporarily, I'm sure). Replace the drum shaft bearing, and there's a mod posted in another thread to add a contact point to the drum shaft along with some conductive grease... there's also some interesting "disposal methods" listed for the 1224c that should also be applied to these beasts. I guess I should mention I had several knock-down-drag-out fights with both these models this week.
