I have this 338 that makes great full color copies, no misalignment. But black/ white looks like crap. It looks like there is a leading line in the sub-scan direction. In other words, vertical lines are doubled in the direction of the paper path. On this machine, two diodes are used for mono copies and only one for color. So it looks like the two lds are not aligned.
I have run 5993 LP adjust until I am cyan in the face. I have reset the mirror motors, then 5993. When I run a test pattern 5997 #14 (single dot trimming pattern, looks great: #15 (two dot trimming pattern), I can see the two vertical lines, separate, not overlaped. Not by much but enough to cause the distortion. and the blacks in general are ok but the grays are mottled not gray.
I am thinking the laser unit is fried. Any ideas out there to troubleshoot this?
