    Ricoh Aficio 1013

I sent a tread out a while ago concerning paper feed trouble with this model in that you can select the # of copies wanted and yet the copier may only make one or several and if your watching the display the red warning light above the diagram of the copier will come on telling the copier (I believe) that it's out of paper. One of the replys that I received stated that the problem was solved by air cleaning the paper level switch. This I have done several times and appears to be sucessful yet I recently found out that this switch is a magnetic reed switch. This same type of switch is used on the Ricoh 1015. I reseated the connections on both copiers and for now they're working. I tried by-passing the switch by shorting out the plug connections which didn't work. Would anyone know how to go about by-passing this switch. I used to do this on the old Mita DC 131/132/111 copiers and then let the customer know if the misfeed light came on to see if the cassette was out of paper if so reload and reset copier.
    Thanks!!!

Do a continuity check from the reed switch itself and run your (hopefully) magnetic screwdriver across the switch.
If the meter beeps the switch is good.
Check how far the Magnet is from the switch and check the magnet with your (again hopefully) magnetic screwdriver.
      Alike poles repel.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Check 'paper size selector' switch. It is a 'tray closed' switch also. The red warning light has two meanings : out of paper and paper tray open/closed condition. I think that paper tray and switch do not come close enough...

Just replace the paper empty (reed) switch. They are not that expensive. And they do go bad. I have seen it many times.

Dude, it's the paper end sensor.
Don't take that toner with me!

Sometimes these are quirky. Had the Addon tray for this mama today tell me that there was a jam when it was Out of paper. Yeah retarded...

I also COULD NOT print a Copy Count from that try. I'd pull out tray one, get into user tools, copy count tell it to print and bam there would be a false jam.

I have found a couple of issues that could cause this problem. There is a metal ground plate in the back that can bend out of position and cause a static arc that will short out the reading of that sensor (sounds odd, but its true). If that doesn't work, either clean out or replace the paper end sensor.

New style OOP sensor is P/N B0445300 or remove the sensor and extend the plastic flag where it contacts the paper with a soldering pen.
