    Ricoh MP9000 SC672

Hello guys, I have a new customer with this SC672 at boot up. I can't get into the service mode , or anything elese. When you turn the machine on it says please wait for about 30 secs and then the SC672 shows up. I have tried to disconnect the hard drives, I pulled out the memory, network card etc. It won't budge. Any suggestions? Thanks!

DONT fool around with this machine, print SMC and see what firmware the machine is running: the old B234 or is it updated to the new D101 firmware for the Pro series: there is a system copy firmware update but post your firmware versions, all of them to see if I could help you out.

While I have not seen this myself...this is what I pulled from the most current Goose Guide: I hope it helps.

check for pinched wire in the reg section/B2 plate
      Contoller board defective
Controller start up error - Replace system SD card
Controller startup error - Reseat system sd card in slot C1
Controller startup error. Suggest to reseat system sd card in slot C1
      hdd cable connected backwards
      HDD's defective
Print option - P/S, post script, memory, Nic defective
      replace motherboard pcb
      Replace NIC / USB card
      Replace optional memory dimm

Looks like a laundry list to me.You mention this is a new customer...does this mean that you don't know the history of what led up to this? If this is the case I don't envy your predicament.

Personally I would put a firmware update SD card in and see if it will boot to the update screen. That would probably mean you have a bad System SD Card.

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

You can try to update the firmware just be sure to follow the procedure outlined in TSB 46. If you screw it up you just need to replace the system sd card the machine won't be totaled or anything. Do not ignore the part about updating all the accessories too or you will be back when some function you didn't think to try doesn't work.

Good Lord, it seems I'm in trouble! It is my first MP9000, I have no idea what the BIOS version is (B234 or D101), all I know is that when I turn the machine on it will go to this SC672. If I try to go to "clear mode"+1+0+7+Cancel(3 sec) will not do anything. So, I think I'm at the baby steps here. All of you who answered are talking about stuff that is very compex. Can you be more specific? There is any way to get into the brains of it? Thank you all!

Controller startup error. You can try formatting the HDD . Another possibility is the Memory DIMMs, in particular the Optional Controller DIMM.
If it won't alllow you to enter SP, try turning machine on w/ front door open, when message for open door appears, enter codes , then shut door. This may get you in before error can appear. Hoping this helps.

Yep what I was about to say, Fire her up with Door Open. This way Machine won't initialize and warm up fuser and do its voltage checks and such.

As suggested, unplug from wall, reboot with door open etc, but ALSO unplug everything you can (LCT, ADF etc), remove applications and pull out all the paper trays. There is a fault where the loom under the right hand side of the tandem tray can short to the frame and cause weird codes / Blank (black) op panel due to dropping the 24v line. Unhinge the control boxes and check all the leads are plugged in, I have seen them removed which gives SC672!

Also had a strange one once on a 1224. After bad weather, the machine showed SC672, as it turned out a spike through the RJ45 had fried the NIB. When the NIB was removed, the SMC History showed SC823 (!) After reset and a new nib the machine was fine. Goes to show that many things can prevent boot up!

Hello guys, I'm back. I've tried your tricks, turn on with the doors open, unplug and then turn on again. It still shows "please wait" and then SC672.When you press the control panel buttons to get into service mode the keys will not beep and can't get it into the SM. I have pulled out everything: memory, network/usb card. All i got it to do is showing half a screen now when it says "please wait". I will try what TSC09 said, the thing with the tandem trays because the customer had trouble with it in the past. There is something else I've seen today: the fan which is supposed to cool the controller power supply board will not turn. I checked the voltage to it and it only gets 8.7 V instead of 12 V. So I think that something "steals" voltage (like the issue with the tandem tray).
Thank you all for your input. I'll let you know if I can get it to work tomorrow.

Hmm fan won't turn.. Maybe burnt out the bearings in it. In turn overheating/damaging the control board.

Soooo maybe the control board is Borked.. Guess you wouldn't get into SP modes then...

OK, I have tried to turn it on with the paper drawers open, disconnected adf, stacker, disconnected hard drives, pulled the memory out, checked for pinched wires, nothing. The same old story. Can't get into SM. It may really need parts to be replaced. Does anyone have a reliable Ricoh parts supplier? Can I get their info? Thank you!

Have you disconnected the HDD? Had to do that this morning for an MP5500.

That was two HDD problems for me, today.
