I don't think those machines will scan via USB. It has to be network.
Don't take that toner with me!

It will scan with USB. It functions like a regular cheap desktop scanner. An application has to be opened on your PC desktop, like Paperport or Photoshop and thru that application you choose the Ricoh scanner. You have to put the originals in the doc feeder go back to your PC , hit the button to start scanning. But it will do it.
Recommend highly the network upgrade. Then it functions like a regular MFP.

Umm No Sir it will NOT Scan Via USB.

        Network TWAIN Driver
Ver.4.24.04 12/25/2008 5,694 KB From the Driver page above.

Black & White Scanning, Duplex Scanning, Embedded Scan-to-Email, Image Rotation, Network TWAIN Scanning, Scan-to-Folder (SMB/NCP/FTP)From Savins on Website on this model.

You cannot SCAN with the Twain Driver unless its on the Network.
Scan to Folder/Email also = Network

AFAIK USB scan is indeed not possible because the twain driver does only communicate with network devices. Dunno if there's an unofficial solution and I don't feel the need to find this out^^

I don't know why the originator of this thread started it again, but here is the original posting link. And it has answers ! ! Imagine that.

aabarnes1, this is true for meach. there is no menu or application whatsoever in you desktop because you have to select your scanner manually from another application like photoshop or even microsoft word. insert file from... scanner or camera, then select the ricoh scanner. you can scan with usb, this works on windows xp. the problem with this model is as far as i know doesnt support vista. goodluck buddy!

To Scan from USB wouldn't you have to have the DDST Controller instead of the full blown controller?

Well thanks for the replies lads, this mp2000 will scan via usb to vista, I managed it today. I had to go into start>computer>(right click)services and allow the driver to be used as it is not an authentic windows item, like every thing in vista it requires permission-bingo

That is a Heck of a Good thing to know. We only have one 9021 out in the Field and Never could get the DDST Controller to ping on their network. The Controller held an IP and all, just never worked even after replacing it. So we set them up USB to Print.
I feel like a fool not setting them up to Scan now. After that Debacle I told the office no more DDST Units.
