    mp1600 background

Hi there!! I am struggling with a MP1600 that is giving background. 30000 copies on the meter. Changed developer. All SP modes are at default. Adjusting dev bias only makes the background lighter, but not less. Talked nicely to customer. Nothing works. Any advice before I start changing parts?

On this machine it's mostly the drum - but it's a but unusual after only 30k. Are you using original toner?

Yes, original toner, Good paper. It's probably the hi voltage power supply. It also says add toner, and I can see the solids are not pitch black, like when the toner is empty, but there's a full toner in the machine.

Is the toner hopper/motor working correctly? These machines doesn't have an ID sensor so they only listen to the TD sensor - I think a broken HVPS can't force this symptome because the machine doesn't read the "real" image density on the drum.

All SP modes are on default? But you've initialized the new dev properly via SP? I think you should install another drum or pcu unit and maybe another hopper testwise before swapping any PWBs.

The units should be the same like A2018 - maybe you've something like that in the shop.

I will be replacing the pcu from 2018 first thing tomorrow, but I didn't see any problems on the pcu. There is an ID sensor beneath the transfer roller. But for now, its time for a beer. The machine can wait 'till tomorrow. Thanks.

you only change developer but not the drum yet?right? maybe the grounding plate inside the drum is not touching the drive shaft, or maybe too much dirt or toner on either shaft or grounding plate. this will cause background on copy even after you adjust the bias. about the add toner prob, i agree with jan sommer, maybe the toner motor cannot drive properly. you can check it thru sp mode, look on the input/output mode, you can check the toner motor there.

            good luck buddy!

You're right with the ID sensor - haven't noticed that yet. I'd still go for the units - good that you have a spare 2018 to check this without big efforts.

Did clean all the optics section??? print out the counter,so you will know if the pcu cause this problem.

for digital copiers like mp1600, dirty optics will not give background on copy but light copy it is. the same thing happens with dirty laser.
