    Aficio 2027 -ADf feed problem

Recently, I have had trouble with an Aficio 2027 machine that when feeding through the ADF (either faxing, copying, or scanning) it will take in a page, and then stop, show a jam indicator, and says "check paper size/direction". This problem can often be resolved by switching off main power. The machine may then work for a day or 2. It also doesn't always happen at the first page, it may scan several before this error is displayed. I have done a memory clear on the machine, and also replaced the entire feeder. Both solutions had the same result...the machine worked at the time, but the problem returned after a day or 2.
Any ideas? Am I down to a Motherboard? I've thought about firmware too, but i don't have the necessary tools (IC card) for updating on this type of machine, since it doesn't use an SD card.
    Thanks

Easy, clean the paper size sensors on the ADF tray, there are three near the end of the tray.
sigpicWe can all Win, but at the end we all loose. Save the greyhound

Thanks, but I think you missed the part where I said I've replace the entire feeder already (and it was obviously a working one)

Dismantle the ADF feed tray and clean the contacts on the paper size detection board and under the side guides (See attached). These get dirty and give size misdetection errors.

Yeah I was sure of the Answer till I got to the part were it says Swapped Feeder. That leaves only some issue with the Plug on the back of the machine or some goofy firmware issue?

Flaky connection on the ADF Lift sensor or the flag that actuates it bent/broken/flopping??? Shouldn't let you scan through the doc feed if it doesn't think its down, but stranger things have happened especially if it thinks you lifted the feeder after copying started.

Check for obstacle/deformation of the scan glass assembly. Disable mixed size original mode (if it is enabled).

That's probably a broken Cover open/close sensor. That thingy is located near the left hinge on the scanner frame. I had this once and it gave me the same symptome IIRC.

That's what I was calling the lift sensor - I thought I was throwing that out as a WAG.

Yeah - I think that was on a good old A220 back then. The DF has also an internal lift sensor so it will feed when it's closed even if the other lift sensor, wich is basicly just for the platen cover, is broken.

WAG - not bad at all^^

I had one like this. Turned out that the machine was sitting under a shelf..... a white shelf. Periodically it would see the bottom of the shelf and confuse the sensors. Ended up printing a sky shot and taping it under the shelf.
