Ricoh 2051 DF tray stays up after jam

The problem happens after a jam at feed in. I have never been able to duplicate the problem. The customer says it only feeds in a fraction and jams. They open and close the door to clear the jam, but the tray will not go down. I have tried the wire harness, paper present sensor, gear pack, motor and DF board.
    Thanks for any ideas,

It may be user error. They may be tripping the entrance sensor to make it beep, then moving the paper or doing something else to cause the paper to not be sitting where it needs to be.

Is it set up to raise on the 'pressing of the start button' or by them just placing it in the tray? You might try to change it to raise when the button is pressed, then they would be putting the paper in and changing their focus to press the button, rather than fiddling with the paper.

These can be tough ones. You might also get together the few people that are having the problem and have them demonstrate exactly what they are doing.

After I read your post again, I am wondering where they are actually having the problem, like is the paper actually feeding in and stopping, or if it's some tray lift problem?

I'm starting to think the tray may be going up too far causing the jam or a problem with pick-up. thanks for the reply. I'm going back today to free up the tray. By the way, I can free up the tray by either lowering the motor in the output mode or manually turning the gears.
